Native English speakers, could you please help me with these issues?

Do these verbs mean the same:

a) "I was CAUGHT UP in my project that I forgot about the party."

b) "I was WRAPPED UP in my project that I forgot about the party."

(And are these informal verbs?)

Both are ok but say "I was so caught up ....."  or  "I was so wrapped up ......."

Yes they mean the same and yes I would say they are informal.

I will note outside of school, native english speakers tend not to have any concern if something is worded formally or not when speaking.

BOTH CORRECT, BUT BETTER TO SAY "SO CAUGHT UP" OR "SO WRAPPED UP", and yes, they are informal because no one is literally caught or wrapped. They're "figures of speech".
