My mom gets mad at me for speaking on black issues?

My mom claims that all I care about is me being black. She wants me to ignore every single issue that's going on in society and focus in school. How am I supposed to do that while my people are being shot because of the color of their skin? It makes me feel uncomfortable, especially how my teachers are bringing the issues to light during class. I'm in high school at the moment, and when I first came into high school I was whitewashed and did a lot of things that white people would do. The high school I go to is predominately black so I eventually acknowledged who I'm really meant to be. My mom thinks that ever since I went to this high school my life has gone downhill and threatened to transfer me back to the school in my district (which is full of racist people and has a horrible learning curriculum). How can I resolve this issue? Do you think I should ignore all the issues in society and focus in school?

Balance is needed. You don’t need to ignore what is happening in the world or in the US. But you don’t need to focus so intently on all the issues.

If you are attending a school with a good curriculum then it would be a waste for you to ignore your studies.

You want to make a difference. Then get an education.  Get into a field, a career that will make a difference.
