Auto insurance clam question?

I was recently in an auto accident where I was rear ended while completely stopped in my 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee.  The lady that hit me claim full responsibility and I proceeded with the claim and repair through her insurance.  I take it to the body shop and after a couple of days I get a call back saying that the exhaust needs to be replaced but since is a part that is Susceptible to corrosion and normal wear and tear that I would have to pay 10% of the cost on this part because In there eyes they are giving me a better part then I had currently and they can give me a used exhaust.  The price she gave me was $1k and change so I would have to pay $100 and change. Does this sound right to anyone?  I can’t believe that this is actually a thing.   The car is only 9 months old and only has 7k miles on it.  How “worn” can it really be.   God I hate insurance companies.   Any suggestions moving forward would be greatly appreciated.

YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY REQUIRES YOU TO CONTACT THEM ABOUT THE ACCIDENT. IF YOU HAVEN'T DONE THAT. FAIL!!! That puts you in breach of your insurance contract.

It is doubtful that you are only carrying liability insurance on such a new vehicle. With a full-coverage policy, your insurance company should be handling this, not you. It's what you pay them for and also what your lender expects.

Did I say Fail? I meant EPIC FAIL.

It's pretty simple. The other insurance company must pay for everything damaged in the crash, and won't pay for anything that wasn't. But they're also going to try to pay as little as they possibly can, and contest what was and what wasn't caused in the crash. If you can prove that the exhaust was damaged in the crash, then make them pay for it. If you can't, then they won't. Ask the mechanic to put into writing why it needs to be replaced, and what the cause was.

It does not sound right to me, for the reasons you stated.  Tell the agent your reasoning and suggest that you should not have to threaten bad faith on something like this.  There was nothing wrong with it prior to their stupid insured.
