A piece of metal with a mass of 96.8 g and temperature of 96.9 ºC was dropped into a insulating cup containing 118.8 g of water at 22.0 ºC?

( Specific heat capacity: water = 4.184 J/g•°C). After thermal equilibration, the final temperature was 28.7 °C).What is the specific heat capacity of the metal (in J/g•°C)?

    (4.184 J/g·°C) x (118.8 g) x (28.7 - 22.0)°C = 3330.30 J gained by the water (and lost by the metal)

    (3330.30 J) / (96.8 g) / (96.9 - 28.7)°C = 0.504 J/g·°C
