when did people start using "theses" instead of "these" and "where" instead of "were," and are we really that lazy or stupid as a society?

I have not seen anyone use "theses" instead of "these". "Theses" is the plural of "thesis" so it would not be caught by a spell checker. I haven't seen "where" instead of "were" either, but I have seen the opposite.
