Depends on where you live. If you're downtown and there's 3 crackheads sitting under your bedroom window, yes, a mask might be a good idea in general like much more densely populated countries did long before COVID. Also, don't take your mask off and move in, 6 inches away from a guy to yell at him about not wearing a mask. A true story on par with an old white lady screaming at 2 black guys "I will not have the word ******..."

But if you live out where there are no people around, 9 miles IS social distancing.

If I'm going on a bus or train, I will wear my respirator mask before I leave the house and only take it off when I get home. Yes it looks ridiculous, but I like being able to breathe without the aid of an oxygen tank. So what's a little discomfort in the grand scheme of things?

False. The only place you need to wear a mask is when you are going to be close to other people for more than a few minutes. There is some debate as to whether masks are even effective in those situations. Those people you see driving in their car by themselves wearing a mask, or wearing a mask while walking in a park - well, those people are completely paranoid idiots. They are the types that fall for phone scams.
