Why do people buy stuff from people on Facebook Marketplace ?

A woman in her fifties was stabbed to death when she arranged a meet at a white guy's apartment to buy a refrigerator. She went in alone and was stabbed to death. Why do people continue to subject themselves?

Update:

Also, why buy someone else's garbage?

In dealing with strangers, there's always risks involved. But the risk is minimal, since murders like this aren't common. Her mistake was going alone to his apartment. If she wasn't going to buy such a large item like a fridge, the next mistake would have been not meeting in a public place or at the very least stay outside of the seller's house in front of the property where other people can see you.

People who buy other people's things are typically looking for a bargain or are collectors of items or the item they want isn't manufactured anymore. "One person's trash is another person's treasure."

Lots of people probably buy things without getting stabbed, but I don’t like to buy or sell things that way. I will put things up under the free section and let them be picked up on the curb if they’re too big to drop off somewhere. The last thing I did that with was a large aquarium and wood aquarium stand.
