Best guess why YA shutting down?
Mine is that YA could face lawsuits like Facebook is facing:
"A Muslim civil rights group is suing Facebook. The lawsuit claims the company has not done enough to stop the spread of anti-Muslim hate. As NPR's Bobby Allyn reports, it is the latest confrontation between the world's largest social network and rights advocates over online hate speech."

YA Answers has been dying for a few years now and Yahoo has not invested any time in it-it is costing them money to keep it going.

WRONG. There's no revenue stream. Pure and simple. It's not profitable. It also was not properly moderated, Due to all the problems, Verizon couldn't turn it around, and its reputation was so bad they couldn't attract advertisers and turn it into a profit center. .
