the idea would be that you are started off in a good way. set up means establish a pattern/system or create a foundation. All good structures need a good foundation, so the idea here is that today's activities are started off in a good way, so the rest of the day's activities ought to follow in a good way as well.
Kind of like taking a step in the right direction. Gets you started in a good way.
