What's the appeal of keeping a snake as a pet?

They're dangerous and unpredictable. Especially the big ones. I've heard of one that stangled 2 kids from the neighbors owner. There's one that strangled the owner and he died. Not to mention, they look scary and won't love the owner. They're not meant to be pets. The small ones that won't grow too big are not too bad. But the big ones.Ugh No, how do you know it won't attack your children?

Most snakes are not dangerous.  But of course, you should not have a snake if you don't know how to take care of it properly.

There have been more children attacked by dogs than by snakes. Some people like the "danger" of owning something that can defend itself when annoyed. That said, only a fool starts out by keeping a venomous snake or a large constrictor. Those are for advanced herpetoculturists only. I've known one person who raised large constrictors. He always kept a large-caliber handgun within reach. Luckily, he never had to use it; he could have hurt himself more with the gun than with the snake.

May I suggest that looking "scary" is not a good reason to reject an animal as a pet? It says more about you than about the snake.
