So what's the point of paying for health insurance in America?

1. You pay quite a lot monthly

2. If you do get sick or injured, they don't cover ALL expenses

3. You still have to pay out of pocket regardless

Is insurance just another capitalist ponzi scheme I'm not aware of?

Healthcare/Medical is a FOR PROFIT business.

Supply and Demand come into play.

Oh and you think healthcare is expensive, try getting DENTAL WORK done.

There is virtually NO government price controls on Dental.

    Almost no controls at all.

    All price fixed too.

Shop around and prices are 'competitive'. Meaning they all price fix (landlords do this too).

Ill tell you why... under/uninsured dont get the same treatment as an insured person. They wont tell you that but its the truth. Do you really believe a public ghetto hospital is the same as a private hospital?  I hope you never get a life-threatening illness.

This is why I REFUSE to get insurance.

    Illegals get seen free too.

So do inmates who are criminals!

How is that fair to people born here, stay out of trouble, and pay taxes.

Doctors are overpaid prescription drug dealers.

We are capable of healing ourselves and survival.

"Liberals" aka progressives are too helpless and stupid to see that.

Instead they become angry and try to curse you for not being a sheep.

It's for those occasions when you need to be in hospital for something major.  The whole systems is a complicated mess.  Patients have health insurance, doctors have malpractice insurance, which can be in excess of $200,000 annually if they're an OB/GYN, hospitals have to carry insurance.  Everybody has to carry some kind of insurance.

You chose the out of pocket amount and how much premium you're willing to pay. At least you can always use health insurance for preventive care. The auto insurance you (hope to) never use.

Exactly. It's all about buying that third yacht for the CEOs.

While you do pay out of pocket, it is far less than you would pay without the insurance.  If it covered 100% of the cost, the premium would be higher then the deductible.

The health insurance corporations and the politicians they've bought out want it that way.

There is more than enough money for public healthcare in this country, and in the long run, it would actually save money because poor people would be able to go the doctor before their problem reached a critical state.

But the strength of corporations and the fact that a significant portion of the country are drooling morons who believe having a civilized healthcare system like every other country on earth would be "communism,"  means we peasants don't get things like basic health care in this "democracy"

Health insurance pays the medical bills.

I don't see how US health insurance companies add any value to the healthcare system. They exist only as a barrier between you and a healthcare provider, and the only thing they accomplish is limiting the types of covered treatments and charging you money to do it.
