Have you ever tried to learn Arabic? Is it particularly difficult to learn ?

I sat in on a Beginning Arabic course for a week because our department head wanted me to assess the instructor's teaching.  She was good and I liked the class.  Speaking four languages myself, I didn't find the spoken Arabic hard, but I could see the spelling was going to be another story.  I read and write Greek, but the subtlety of the Arabic letters seemed difficult to me.

No, but the US foreign Service Institute lists it as needing "2200 hours of class"

that's three times as much as German, or 15 times a s much as Esperanto

I managed to pick up a few words. It is hard to learn if you want to learn to read it. If you don't mind being illiterate, nos pi nos. [That should tell you where I learned the little I know.]
