  • Gap year or safety school?

So I'm having a senior year crisis.

I applied to seven schools, and got into four. I messed up when I was applying and did not fully consider the possibility of where I would go if I didn't get into one of those top three. So I committed to the best of my four back-ups. I want to go on to grad school, though, and I just keep having doubts, like I could have ended up at a better school (I'm valedictorian, 4.0, 31 ACT, lots of ECs). Would I be better off taking next year off and applying to a bunch of schools that might be more in my target rage? Or am I just overthinking this whole thing?

  • Is hosting a foreign exchange student considered an extra-curricular?

I've been filling out college & scholarship applications and have had a lot of questions about the most powerful extracurricular. Last year, a foreign exchange student stayed with me and my parents which was a huge experience, but I'm not sure if it's considered an "extra-curricular or leadership role". Can I use this for my application essays?

  • Tips for going to a volleyball camp alone?

So i'm doing this volleyball camp that looks pretty intense. I've never done one before, and none of my friends can go with me. I'm super intimidated/nervous. I was on varsity last year & i really like volleyball, but i didn't play much and i'm not all that good at it. I want to gain the experience & be better this year, but i'm dreading sitting alone at meals and feeling left out when everyone else has their friends they came with. I've literally never had to make new friends; i've had the same close friends since kintergarden, then just added more to our group, and i've always had one of them or my sister by my side. I have no idea how i'm supposed to handle doing this...help? Or if i should even do it at all? k thanks

  • Is it reasonable for a 16 yr old to lose 30 lbs in 3 months?

I weigh 160 & i want to be down to 130 by the time school starts again. Some websites have said only to lose 1 lb/week?? bogus. So is that even possible, like if i do the Atkins & do a lot of working out?

  • What are typical hotel/Travel Advantage Network policies on this situation...?

so we booked a 2 brdm hotel unit in Gulf Shores (gulf shores plantation) thru TAN. It holds up to 6 people. We, however, are taking 7. Whoever we talked to doesn't really have any answer for us if this is okay or what do we need to do? They say it's against there policy, but i can't find anything written about it. We didn't get the insurance so we can't switch. we have 2 adults, 5 minors. We don't mind bringing an air mattress or paying a small fee...but we just don't see what we can do if they won't let us have an extra person...

  • Help for a 16 year old losing weight?

I'm 16 years old, i've always been 'at risk' of being overweight. it's frustrating and i want to get rid of the label once and for all and just be normal. I'm 5'6 and weight 155

so i've decided to try the Atkins diet with my parents. I'm in volleyball, soccer, and basketball (bball right now), and i run and workout on my own, but it never seems to be enough. i've just been stuck for a while.

will doing this diet affect how my playing, or make me tired for school or anything? Is it a good idea? anything else i should know?

I plan on starting the 2-week induction sunday, and i want to lose 20-30 lbs by the time my next sport, soccer, starts, in 2 months. If at all possible.

Thanks so much for your help!

  • Are Mizuno Wave Lightning 4 good volleyball shoes?

Hey, so i'm looking at buying volleyball shoes--i'll be a sophomore this fall, and i'll probably be doing a lot of back row on the team. My parents are cheap, so they're thinking i should get these shoes:

    http://www.ladyfootlocker.com/catalog/productdetai...

I just want to make sure no one's ever had any problems with them; as long as they're not too heavy (it says 9.4 oz), and will last without the soles peeling, then I'm content.

Any suggestions for other good shoes are welcome.

Thanks guys! have a good weekend!

  • Some girls took a pic of my friend & sent it around, should i tell the principal?

Ok, um today in class we had a sub, and some girls were just in a really mean mood, i guess, because they were being super rude to one of my friend. well, her jeans were kinda low & her butt crack was showing, and they were sitting at the table behind her & noticed. and then they just started laughing and doing all the "cracker jack!", "can't she feel the breeze??", and "crack kills!". but then one of them had the balls to take out her phone & take a picture and sent it around. that's the really bad part, and i know it's against a lot of rules and stuff, maybe even a law? So i'm super pissed. and i know another girl witnessed it; she's the one who told me. so i told my friend, who they were making fun of, that they had been saying stuff about her & we were thinking of telling the guidance counselor or something, and she was like "oh, ok, i don't really care. just don't get the school involved." but i really don't have the heart to tell her what they did. Should I? and should we go to the principal?

  • what kind of asics should i get?

Hey! i'm a teenage girl, and i need some new shoes. i had a pair of asics (not sure what kind. they were really simple. kind of similar to the Gel 1140), and i've had them for a year, but the soles are starting to peel and they have holes.

sooo. i'd be using them for gym class, volleyball, and basketball. and also running on my own on a bike trail.

i was looking at the kanbarra...would that be good? or would it be worth the extra money to get the nimbus?

i have pretty high arches in my feet. size 8 1/2.

    Thanks! have a good weekend!

  • What do you think of the Dell XPS m140?

Hey! I just bought the dell xps m140 off of ebay for a really good price (only $250), and it's in perfect condition & runs really well. It's only 50GB hard drive, but i can always get external hard drives or even just flash drives.

I'm a high school student, and i mainly got this to do a couple courses online, but also because i like going on facebook and whatever. The only programs i'll really have on it would be a web browser, microsoft office, powerpoint, publisher, and the language course thing. I'll also probably be using it to watch DVDs & such on, because my family takes a lot of long trips. Speed is one thing important to me-i'm not a very patient person when it comes to computers.

So do you think i made a good choice? Thanks for your input and have a good rest of your week!

  • What language should I take in high school?

I'm going to be a freshmen next year. Our school offers a Spanish program, but I can take a different language through a computer program if I want--Latin, French, Sign Language, etc.

I want to go to a good college, and I'll take it for 3-4 years. Which do you think would be best to get into a good college and for job life?

Also, i might go into missionary work in third world countries, if that matters for anything.
