  • How to remotely access home router and hard drive. I'm stuck!I?

Right now I m using a TrendNET TEW-818DRU router. The HD is successfully connected to the router via USB, and in the router I have turned on the SAMBA server settings.

To get a DynamicDNS I have made an account at noip.com. I have entered my noip.com DDNS settings into my router.

But I'm having a hard time with the next steps. From what I understand, I need to set up Port Forwarding on my router to define a specific port for the device I want to remotely connect to.

But my problems are 1) I can't find the Port Forwarding section in the TEW-818DRU, and 2) I'm not sure how to identify the external hard drive and successfully forward a port, once I find that setting.

On top of that, I would love to be able to use this connection as a VPN if I'm in a shady public wifi connection. I know that's a separate talk, but it seems somewhat connected.

    THANK YOU!

  • When it comes to internet service, is 15mbps in cable the same speed as 15mbps in fiber optics?

This is my first time purchasing business internet, and I talked with Comcast and AT&T to get quotes.

Comcast quoted me for speeds between 25-100 mbps. They use cable.

AT&T quoted me for speeds between 6-12mbps, and they use fiber optics.

I asked if AT&T offered faster speeds, and they told me that fiber optics are faster than cable. So for example, 15mbps of AT&T s fiber optic service is the same speed as... maybe 50mbps of Comcast s cable service. That seems crazy to me.... isn t 15mbps the same speed whether you re using fiber optics or cable?

  • What website/system should I use to place an email sign-up form on my website, and then email that user weekly tips?

I'm a photographer promoting a photography class. I don't want to create a typical email newsletter that sends all users the same email each week... I want each user to get the NEXT tip each week, in sequential order, depending on when they signed up. So a recent user will get tip #2, while an older user will get tip #8, etc.

What is this process even called? I'm not sure what keywords to search in order to find a site/system that does this.

  • I'm based in Michigan (6% sales tax) and someone in Connecticut (0 sales tax) bought product. Do I charge?

With online transactions, do you charge sales tax by the state the seller or the buyer is located?

I'm based in Michigan (6% sales tax) and someone in Connecticut (where there is 0% sales tax) purchased product. Do I still charge them the MI sales tax?

  • How can you make an industrial ear piercing less obtrusive? Smaller ball on the end, wrapping around back?

A few friends and I have been talking about industrial ear piercings, and really love how they look in the ear. But we're not liking how there is usually a large metal ball sticking out of each end of the ear.

I know they're needed to keep the bar from falling out, but are there alternatives? Is it possible to have a really small ball, or to have the ends wrap around the back?

I'd just like the actual bar in the ear to be the focal point. Not the two ends sticking out of the cartilage.

    Suggestions?

  • How do I automatically fill in a cell with a default value if it's left blank?

I'm working with a form that customers will fill out online and that can be examined in an Excel spreadsheet. If they leave a particular checkbox blank, I know that means "No" to the prompt. I want to be able to automatically scan for blanks, and fill that in with a value such as "No".

It's a little more complicated because there are a few different instances like this, but instead of "No" I'd like to fill them in with "0", which is why I can't just set a macro to fill all blank cells with "No" or something like that. A blanket-fix won't work, I need specific fixes to this.

    Thanks!

  • Is Bellatrix's knife enchanted so that it never misses its target?

In Harry Potter in the Deathly Hallows, when Bellatrix throws the knife and it hits Dobby, is that knife enchanted so that it never misses its target? I seem to remember it being that way, but going back, and I'm having a hard time finding where in the books that the knife is special.

    Thanks!

  • Will Verizon let me go from 25MB data plan to unlimited without a 2-year contract renewal?

Right now I have the EnV Touch with the 25MB data plan required. We're going to be adding on a new line to our Verizon account, and with that comes the obvious opportunity to get a new phone. We'll probably get a smartphone with that line which required an unlimited data plan. We would then "trade" phones between that new line and me. So I would have the smartphone and the new line would have my EnV Touch.

This all seems good to me, I'm just worried that there might be some weird thing that they have going on where you have to complete your 2-year contract with that 25MB data plan before you upgrade to an unlimited data plan.

Anyone have any experience with this? I only want answers with experience lol, it's the only way you can really know for sure. No conjecture please :)

  • Help with GoDaddy domain and Google Sites host?

I bought a domain name from GoDaddy and want it to forward any 'requests' for my domain, let's say it's www.domainname.com, to go to my Google Sites page. So far it works fine, but only if people type in the "www." because if they just type in domainname.com it will give them an error page.

Please help me fix this problem!

In CNAME, all hosts are pointed to ghs.google.com.

  • If you get the Nationwide Connect plan with Verizon, does that mean that you don't need to purchase data plan?

If you select the Nationwide Connect plan with Verizon wireless (which includes unlimited data usage) would this mean that a person using a Blackberry/Smartphone (and thus being forced to purchase the $30 data plan) would not need to continue paying for the data plan? Would the extra payment be canceled out by the new plan's policy of unlimited data?

I know that in the end, you're continuing to pay the money because the plan costs more than some, but I just want to make sure that Blackberries (and other smartphones like the Droid Eris) wouldn't need to specifically buy the data plan because it's already covered in the pricier 'Nationwide Connect' plan.

  • With Verizon Wireless, if you get the HTC Droid Eris, can you get it with the $9.99 data plan?

I have Verizon Wireless and want to get the HTC Droid Eris. It definitely requires a data plan. Is it possible to purchase the Eris with the $9.99 data plan instead of one of the more expensive plans like the $29.99 plan?

  • With Google Voice, how can you tell who is calling your "old number" and who is calling your Google number?

I'm really trying to make a complete switchover to Google Voice, so what I'm doing is setting my "old" Verizon number's voicemail to direct people to my new Google number. This way, when people call my old number I just won't pick up and it will go to the Verizon voicemail and they'll get my new number.

The problem is that I don't know how to distinguish if my phone is ringing because someone called my old Verizon number or my new Google number, unless I actually pick up and listen to hear if the Google voice is asking me if I want to pick up, which won't work because if they called the Verizon number... I'll pick up and just be talking to them and they won't be directed to the voicemail.

Please help me set this straight in my head :)

    Thanks!

  • Is there a specific low temperature that is unsafe for cats?

Ok, we've got a long-haired cat, and we let her come in our house, and also go outside when she wants. Her happy medium is the garage. (I live in Michigan, and it's snowing, and the temp is usually 19-35 degrees outside around now...) At night we've been keeping our cat in our cold garage, and she wants to come in, but we don't usually let her come inside at night. Is is a good idea to let her in the house to be safe? Is there an unsafe temperature for cats? Would it be helpful if I went out in the garage, and got the temperature out there so you guys have reference to build off of? Thanks!

  • Our cat has been sneezing lately. Why?

We have a year and a half old cat, she is long haired, and goes indoors and outdoors. She has been spayed, and is up-to-date on her shots. She has been sneezing a lot lately. They're just one sneeze at a time, it's NOT a sneezing fit, or anything. And, sometimes AFTER she sneezes, I can hear her breathing out really fast. Just breathing out her nose really fast, but it's not a sneeze. Sometimes, she does the little exhaling thing, even when she hasn't just sneezed. I really want to know what is going on.
