  • Why volume levels on my laptop change at random?

Just bought an HP Envy m6 running Windows 8 and when I stream videos the audio gets softer with loud noises and louder with soft noises and all around changes volume in seemingly random areas. I have never had this problem with any other computer and happens mostly when I stream youtube. I work in radio and notice when what should be a pounding bass drum is muted by a softness.

This is going from an 2008 HP desktop to a brand new HP laptop, using the same speaker set as I did with the desktop. It is so noticeable it is driving me crazy.

I have updated drivers, disable the "beats audio" that came with it and everything I can think of short of things that will shut sound off completely. It is most noticeable with headphone but I notice it no matter what I am using it with.

Also when I have the laptop turned to roughly 50% volume it sounds great that way as it always has with any computer for me. Once I plug the headphones in it blasts me with volume and not like turning it down to 40% will help it. It has to go down all the way to 5% or 10% to be bearable. These problems are so annoying because I listen to music all the time on my old desktop but I don't have it anymore. HELP!!!

  • Region Locking in New Zealand with Xbox 360.?

I have an U.S. Xbox 360 and many games both downloaded and retail. I'm moving to New Zealand next year and was wondering if I can take my Xbox 360 with me without any problems. Here are my questions...

If my Xbox 360 is region locked what do I need to do to fix it short of buying a whole new console?

Is New Zealand NTSC/U or PAL?

According to a spreadsheet I found on the internet all the games I currently own are Region Free so should play on any Xbox 360 in the world. Correct?

Finally. I have quite a few Xbox Live Arcade, and Games on Demand titles on the hard drive. Will I be able to play them there and after converting my Gamertag/Account to the new country will I lose any/all of said downloaded games?

    Thank you.

  • I need a nice sweet/cheap wine.?

I'm looking for some wine between $10-$15 that is sweet and above 9%Acl/Vol. I'm hosting a Christmas party this week and nobody coming likes bitter/dry wines and I'm on a budget. I have served bad (vinegar) grape juice once. That once too many times.

I need brand names and the variety (Merlot, Pinot etc.)

    P.S. We prefer Red Wines.

  • In what month does the shining take place?

The family wasn't there for very long but they were supposed to take care of the place for the better part of Winter. I haven't seen the film in a long time but I read this quote.

"Because I just happen to have two twenties and two tens right here in my wallet. I was afraid they were gonna be there until next April."

How long were those two twenties and two tens going to be there had what happened, not happened?

  • All our friends have babies. What can we do?

My wife and I are 23 and 24 respectively. We have no desire to have children anytime soon but all of our friends have already had there first child. These friends don't just include high school buddies but college acquaintances and all branches of family alike.

We find it nearly imposable to spend time with them because it always results in one of them constantly diverting there attention from us, to the baby. We know it will only get worse when the kid (or kids) get older and demand more attention, money etc.

While we don't want to hurt there feelings we find it less and less likely we will ever call them again. To us, they represent the boring old people equivalent to our own parents.

I often say to my wife "We are too young for this to be happening. Our environment is forcing a boring life onto us and we are being slowed down prematurely."

Our problem is that we are two kids in our 20's and while everyone else is growing up we want to have fun. We want to go out bowling, see movies, go to a bar and have a drink, stay up late and just be our fun loving selves.

Going out is not financially plausible for our friends so we end up going to there house just to sit and stare at the baby for 2 hours. All of our friends hobbies have been put on hold so talking about our common interests always end with my friends telling me how they haven't kept up with it in a long time.

They are great parents for dropping everything to care for there child and we can never be mad at them for that. We are just frustrated at our situation. It's to the point where we want to throw our hands up and say "We might as well have a baby too. Our lives are just as boring since we lost all of our friends to there own children." Of course we won't do that.

It's the weekends that are the worst. We find ourselves shooting texts to everyone we know, begging for someone to come hang out with us. It gone beyond pathetic, to just sad and depressing.

Is there anyone who is going through this or has gone through it? Is there any cure short of finding new friends?

  • If I choose to pay the 1% tax will my health care still be "affordable"?

I get the general gist of the new health care policy. If I'm dirt poor but still scrounge up enough to pay for health insurance (that won't turn me away due to any preexisting condition now) I should get a bonus in my tax refund to offset the expense. That's "Affordable health care". Great!

The question is, if I decide not to carry health insurance, pay the 1% tax and get in an accident that for instance, breaks my leg then will my medical bills still be outrageous? If so, will that 1% tax I paid help me at all in paying my bill?

If it doest than where the heck is 1% of my yearly income going?

P.S. I just want the facts. Weather you love or hate this policy, I really don't care. If you answer seems to intentionally paint this policy as an "evil scheme" than just don't bother.

  • What does Mass Effect play like?

I have heard nothing but good things about this series and I'm considering picking up the first game.

I'm a huge fan of customization, choices, and all those things featured in KOTOR and coming from Bioware, I assume this game has all of those elements.

The one thing that put me off in KOTOR was the turn-based, hit points combat system they had in place. That's a deal breaker for me. I want to be able to take cover and shoot in real time like GOW or GTAIV.

So what do these game play like? Oh and does anyone know if your character from first 2 games carry over into the new game?
