  • Why are there different types of SIM cards?

I looked everywhere, and nothing comes up saying *why* there are Micro and Nano SIM cads, if they serve the same function as a Mini SIM card. Can someone please clear this out?

  • Is PCIe baclwards compatible with PCI?

I want to buy an AUDIOTRAK Prodigy HD2 Advance DE sound card for my HP Pavilion P7-1240, but it seems I need a PCI slot for the connection to work. I have no PCI slots, only PCI-e slots.

These are the slots that I have:

    1 (One) PCI Express x16 (Gen 2.0)

    3 (Three) PCI Express x1 (Gen 2.0)

1 (One) PCI Express mini card (Gen 2.0)

Are these PCI-e slots backwards compatible to read PCI?

    Thanks in advance!

  • Why doesn't 48000 Hz sample rate work?

Since the audio didn’t work on my new HP Pavilion P7-1240, and because there were serious issues of a faulty hard drive, I recently had the hard drive changed. I installed the IDT High Definition Audio Codec driver from the official HP page, but I had no audio. I tried everything: updating using Windows Update, uninstalling and reinstalling, I even tried the generic Microsoft driver, same problem. The only solution I found was to change the sample rate in Control Panel>Sound from 48000 Hz to 41000 Hz. After some use of the computer, the audio stopped working even at 44100 Hz, though I could still hear faint audio when playing a song. With the original hard drive, the only application that sounded with 48000 Hz was the HP Troubleshooter. This behavior is really strange, I have never encountered anything like it. What can be causing this? Will I have to end up buying a sound card if it's a hardware problem? Thanks in advance!

  • Norton 360 working on 4 PCs?

I bought Norton 360 for 1 User/3PCs NOT 1 User/5PCs. I decided to try and install it on 4 computers. To my surprise, it actually works on 4 simultaneous computers when I paid for 3! Could this be a glitch of some sort? Am I still vulnerable to viruses on my 4th computer? Thanks in advance!

  • Task will be run with administrative privileges?

Recently upgraded from Windows 7 Ultimate to Windows 8 Pro 32-bit. In Windows 7 I had text in the "Run" window that said "This task will be created with administrative privileges". I don't know how I got it in the first place, and I don't have that in Windows 8. How do I get elevated administrator privileges all the time like that on Windows 8? Thanks in advance!

  • Would she go on a date with me?

I have known this girl for quite a while now. She is 13, about to turn 14, and I'm 14. I have liked her since 4th grade and asked her to be my girlfriend about 3 times, all in different years. Back then, we barely knew each other and were really nervous when we were left alone together. In 7th grade, I realized for the first time that I didn't know her that well, and I should become more of a friend to her. So, we finally became friends and began to know each other. For the first time, I was a friend to her who made her laugh, cheer her up when she was sad, be near her, etc. After the year ended, I went to another school and just finished 8th grade. I visited the previous school where she is and she really missed me, as did I. During 8th grade, we spoke less on Facebook and she rarely went online, or at least I missed her whenever she did. I have had other crushes this year, but deep down I still liked her. I want to ask her out on a date now that she finished 8th grade too, but I don't know if she would accept it since she is a bit shy and last time I asked her to be my girlfriend she confessed that she didn't want to ruin our friendship. Is she going to accept it? If she does, and if the date goes well, should I invite her again and tell her how I feel about her? I need advice. Thanks in advance!

  • Windows 8 Activation?

I have a legitimate Windows 8 Pro product key. Several times I reinstall the OS on the same computer for my own purposes.

How many times will I be able to use my product key for W8 online activation if I plan to install on the same computer? If there is a limit, will it trigger Windows Phone Activation? How many times can I use Windows Phone Activation using the same installation DVD? I need help with all of these questions, please. Thanks in advance!

  • How to dedicate more memory to integrated graphics?

I recently purchased an HP Pavilion P7-1240 desktop with AMD Radeon HD 7660D integrated graphics. I want to have the best video and gaming power possible from this computer. I am not planning on buying a graphics card or do a crossfire. Since the graphics support 4GB of RAM, I would at least want to get 2 or 3GB of graphics memory, instead of the preset 1GB. How do I do this? Most importantly, is this possible with this model? Thanks in advance!

  • Drivers for my webcam?

I have a 7 year old Sony VAIO VGN-FE790G that comes with a Sony Visual Communication Camera VGP-VCC1 originally designed for Windows XP and Windows Vista. I have been running Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit for quite a long time now, but I sometimes need to run 64-bit applications. I am currently dual-booting Windows 7 Ultimate 32 and 64 bit. The drivers for my webcam don't exist for Windows 7, but it works in 32-bit Windows 7. My concern is that I can't use my webcam with 64-bit Windows 7 because the drivers are incompatible and would only work in Windows Vista 64-bit. Is there anything I can do? Is there no way to use my camera in 64-bit Windows 7? Thanks in advance!

  • How long will my laptop last?

My laptop, a Sony VAIO VGN-FE790G from 2006, is 7 years old now. A relative of mine gave it to me because they got a new laptop. By then, they did not use is very much. Basically they used it just for browsing the net and using Microsoft Office, but a virus deemed the computer useless. When I got it, it was 5 years old. When I had it repaired, I, in turn have since used it heavily. I reinstalled Windows XP Pro 3 times, then upgraded the RAM to 2GB. I then started running ComicRack, Oracle VirtualBox at the best possible settings, same with VMware Workstation 9, started playing Star Trek Online at low settings, burning content to CDs and DVDs and using Cyberlink PowerDVD 11 and 12. I have installed Windows Vista Home Premium, Windows Vista Ultimate 32 and 64 bit, Windows 7 Home Premium, Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit and 64-bit (currently running Windows 7 32 bit and 64 bit on two partitions), Windows 8 Pro 32 and 64 bit, Linux Ubuntu 32 and 64 bit. I have formatted the disk a couple of times, use the internet a lot, and play other demanding and non demanding games. I don´t have a cooler pad, I clean the screen with wet paper and dry it with paper whenever it gets dirty or dusty, it has over-heated many times, but haven't seen any side-effects (I had my reasons to keep it on and overheating), I don't bump it around, always being careful where I place it, it has fallen a couple of times, damaging a plastic part that holds the screen, but still holds, opens and closes the lid like normal, the machine sometimes emits some clicking sounds, but it runs smoothly even today. It has almost never gotten frozen. It has never turned off by itself or displayed error messages.

Now, back to the question. Supposing I take the precautions of taking care of it, and without changing any parts, how long will my laptop last?

  • What is the best Graphics Card Manufacturer?

My new HP Pavilion P7-1240 computer has an A10-5700 processor and AMD Radeon HD 7660d integrated graphics. I found out on the official AMD page that I can do a crossfire of my integrated graphics and an AMD Radeon HD 6670 graphics card. I need to buy the AMD Radeon HD 6670 for my purposes. I have searched the internet and I have found that there are many graphics cards manufacturers selling the graphics card that I need for my crossfire. The manufacturers include Asus, Best Data, Diamond Multimedia, Gigabyte, HIS, MSi, PowerColor, Sapphire, Vision Trek, and XFX. My budget can go up to $100 to $140 maximum.

Which of these brands is the best and most reliable? Is my idea for the crossfire possible? There are many models, which model should I buy? I'm buying from amazon by the way.

    Thanks so much in advance!

  • Sound Cards for professional music recording?

I bought a computer recently to record music professionally. I need the best possible quality for recording instruments and voice within $50-$150 or maybe (if it is a monster) $200. I have searched the internet and found three models that seem to be the best for other people. My options are:

    1. ASUS PCI-Express x1 Sound Card XONAR ESSENCE STX/90-YAA0C0-0UAN00Z

    2. ASUS Xonar Essence ST 24-bit 192KHz PCI Interface Audio Card

    3. M-Audio Audiophile 2496 MIDI Digital Recording Interface

Which one of these models is the best? If you know of better sound cards that are within my budget, please tell me.

    Thanks in advance!

  • AMD Radeon HD 7450M vs. AMD Radeon HD 7660D?

I'm about to buy a new computer to play Battlefield 3, Star Trek Online and edit video and sound. I have two options: HP ENVY H8-1414 and HP Pavilion P7-1240. Both have AMD Radeon HD 7000 series graphics. Which of these graphic cards is better - the AMD Radeon HD 7450M from the ENVY or the AMD Radeon HD 7660D from the Pavilion? I know neither one of them is as good as an Nvidia card, but I need to know which of these is better. Thanks so much in advance!

  • A little help with DVD+R Playback problem?

I have downloaded ISO's of Windows Vista and Windows 7 from the internet for repairing purposes these last few days. I burnt them onto blank DVD+R discs using the Windows 7 Windows Disc Image Burner and a Nero 12 trial. For some reason, after burning the discs, when I insert them into my disc tray, none of the discs are read; but when I play the discs on another computer, they all work perfectly. When I had Nero, I burnt a couple of discs, and they worked; could it be the Windows Disc Image Burner's fault? Can anyone tell me why all of this is happening? My disc tray is not faulty, I have tested other media, and it is read perfectly. I have also tried booting the discs with the BIOS set to Optical Media as the first resource or first media to load, with no avail. Also, the discs are new and in mint condition, with no scratches or anything of the sort. Thanks in advance!
