  • Can my landlord actually charge me for this? What recourse do I have?

So the company that owns all the properties in my area has tacked on a 150 dollar fine to my rent because someone claimed that I did not pick up my dogs' poop (we have a shared backyard). Now I always pick up their poop without exception and if I run out of bags, I always run into the house and come back for it. Some of the other neighbors are not as diligent as I am though.

The neighbor described my dogs so they are insisting on the charge. Since there is obviously no evidence, can they do this? Should I take them to court? They are a sizable company with lawyers to represent them and I'm just a guy. This seems like it could actually make things worse...any advice is appreciated.

  • Will the father be able to get custody with sex offender status?

A woman in my extended family did not want her son and gave the child to her grandma who was then awarded temporary custody. She has now raised him for the first four months of his life. The father now wants custody but the (great) grandma is fighting him for it.

He is a sexual offender for having sex with a 13-year-old. Could this cause him to lose?

    Thanks!

  • Microphone doesn't fit mic stand?

I recently purchased a Behringer B-1 Condenser microphone and it comes with the mount for it to go on a mic stand. I also purchased several standard mic stands but the mount doesn't fit on them (the connection on the mount is too small).

How do I know what stand will work with my microphone? Is there some kind of adapter I should get instead?

  • I recently had my first orchestra piece premiered. What do you guys think?

The performance can be found here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pPme9tCjtGE&feature...

All and all I'm pretty happy with the performance especially given how little time they had to rehearse. I'm interested to hear any thoughts and reactions from you guys.

  • What is it about the Catholic faith that makes Catholics believe that only they can go to heaven?

Allow me to clarify my question. The official position of the Roman Catholic church (as I understand it) is that you have to belong to the church in order to go to heaven (there are exceptions, but they aren't important right now). My question is, what do Catholics actually DO differently that allow them to get into heaven that, for example, a Protestant doesn't do?

Is it just a symbolic thing? That's what I'm trying to understand. Is it that a person just has to accept that the denomination of "Catholic" is the "right" one and that's it? Or is there some act involved in being a Roman Catholic that gets you into heaven? Confessions perhaps?

  • "If an argument is valid, then it has no...?"?

I can't seem to figure out this question. I know that an argument is valid if its conclusions necessarily follow from its premises but I don't know what exactly it doesn't have...

  • Help with this logic proof?

    Here is the issue:

    http://postimage.org/image/lpwntthbj/

I am stuck on this proof and this problem I'm having seems to keep happening so there must be something I'm not getting. I have to prove something that I can't prove. I can take this goal and apply the introduction disjunction rules in reverse and either get A or (B & C) and then I would be stuck again because I would have to prove those. Did I do something wrong? Or is there a way to do this that I am not aware of?

    Thanks!

  • Conceptual differences between string quartet and string trio?

Obviously there is the instrumentation difference but I was wondering if anyone with experience could comment on the broader conceptual difference that arise between these two genres? What does a composer do differently between these two genres and how is the performance practice differ? I just imagine that there has to be some deeper nuances between the two other than "a string trio sounds thinner".

  • How to get good at judging performances?

Since I am not a classically trained instrumentalist, I sometimes find it hard to judge the quality of specific performances. I'm wondering if there is a way to get better at doing this? When I go to orchestra concert, for example, it all sounds fantastic and I find myself unable to easily differentiate between different orchestras' performances of the same piece or who I thought performed it better. The same goes for any performance. Am I not listening closely enough for certain things? I recognize that this is all subjective, but experienced performers seem to be able to formulate these opinions and defend them well. I just want to become a better critic I suppose...

  • Do you like it when the exposition is repeated?

Often times in classical music the exposition of a movement in sonata form is repeated verbatim and I know that sometimes conductors of certain pieces forgo those repeats for different reasons. Does repeating basically everything you just heard bother you? Sometimes it irritates me because I just want the music to get on with it but I wanted to see what you guys thought. (Of course there are other times when large sections get repeated, this was just an example.)

  • So there's this liquid being poured into my yard?

I just bought a house about a month ago and I just noticed last week that there is this pipe coming out of the ground in my backyard that occasionally pours out some liquid into my yard. It smells but it doesn't seem to be sewage since there is no poop and it doesn't really smell like poop/sewage. I would say it smells like an old wet wash cloth. It's not flooding my yard or anything and my wife believes it probably is supposed to be there doing that otherwise it wouldn't exist but our basement tenants are complaining about the smell when they keep their windows open since the pipe is right next their windows.

Does anyone know what this might be? We have a drain in our basement where the basement shower and washing machine water go. Could it be a direct line from there?

I'm thinking about calling a plumber to check it out but I wouldn't want to if there isn't a problem.

  • Is it rude to park on the street when you have a driveway?

So my wife and I own a driveway that we share with our tenant. It could theoretically fit four cars into the driveway but of course you would block two cars in by doing so. Because of this, I like to park my car on the street so I never block my tenant in and both my wife and I always have access to our cars. My wife gets so upset by this though whenever I do this because she thinks I'm being rude to the neighbors by parking on the street. The street is very wide and almost nobody else has a driveway so everyone parks on the street on both sides. I guess I just honestly don't know if I'm being rude. I know I wouldn't care if somebody else did it but maybe I just don't understand. It just seems like way more of an inconvenience to me to have to move a car out to get another car than it would be for anyone else to go around my car like the rest of the street.

What do you think? Am I just being rude?

  • Which of my store credit cards is actually a normal credit card?

So I found out from freecreditscore.com that one of my 3 store credit cards is actually a normal credit card. I know it's not the Walmart card (because I have the Walmart credit card not the Walmart Discover card) so that leaves my HHGreg card and my Zales card. Does anyone know how I can find out?

The Zales card has a Sirris emblem on the back. Maybe that means something??

    Thanks!

  • What is the name of this kind of philosophy?

I remember from studying philosophy that there was a name for the philosophy that states that the goal of life is to be as happy as possible (or something like that). I know it's a very simple concept but I'm pretty sure there is a name for this and I can't figure it out...

  • What instruments can be played with yarn mallets?

Besides marimba, bass drum (and perhaps timpani), and cymbals, what other percussion instruments can be played (effectively) with yarn mallets?

I'm sure you could use them on tom toms and woodblocks and such, I just suspect that the result wouldn't be that great...
