11 AnswersHalloween1 decade agoCredit card payments?
I have a few cards that have a payment due date in the middle of next month. I'm planning on starting my first job in july but doubt any money would be coming in before the due dates. After moving and living expenses, my savings account will barely have enough cash for a minimum payment on one card. But seeing that my actual salary will have me out of credit card debt in a couple of months, is there any way i could advise my credit card companies that my july payment will be a few days late and not have my rates skyrocket? or is that wishful thinking?
4 AnswersCredit1 decade agoQuestion on Snort IDS?
I'm new to the program and need some help figuring out how to enter a simple rule.
How can I set alerts for any attempted ssh or telnet connection to my computer?
More specifically, what commands do I type and do I enter them in the shell or in a rules file. The sites i found are more confusing than helpful. Any direction would be great.
1 AnswerComputer Networking1 decade agoCCNP possiblities?
I'm graduating this spring (finance degree, IT minor), dont have a job lined up, and have no IT experience (but a long list of business experience). I'm aiming for a entry-level tech job then eventually a network analyst type role....BUT, if I'm able to finish all CCNP exams by the end of the semester, what are my chances of getting a decent job after graduation (decent=challenging + salaried with benefits)?
I know I need experience to make any real money, but realistically, is at least 40-45k possible for a CCNP with no IT professional experience?
BTW, I already passed the composite and am taking ONT exam next week.
2 AnswersTechnology1 decade agoClinton's VP comment?
Clinton claims to be open to a picking Obama as VP.
And news shows claim Clinton/Obama is more likely than Obama/Clinton.
Why hasnt anyone noticed that this is probably B.S. from Clinton to win over undecided voters? It's sad she's likely to get a few more votes from those wanting a "dream ticket", but will she fool enough people to win?
16 AnswersElections1 decade agoCredit report issues...?
Here's the issue:
Three years ago during my freshman year in college, my mother used my SSN without my knowledge to order stuff from a mail order service. I recently found a complaint on my credit report from a collection agency for not paying a $50 charge. After some investigating, i found the originating company, and concluded that it was my mother. She admitted to this and claimed to have paid the debt, but of course, theres no receipt.
What should I do? Dispute the charge or pay? What effect would this have on my mother?(Which I'm currently pissed at since my score dropped more than 100 points bc of this)
5 AnswersCredit1 decade agoCareer advice - career change before even starting one?
I'm a senior finance student but I want to go into IT. As a freshmen, I was accepted into our info.studies school but switched into business to build communication/teamwork skills that were not present. I should've done a dual, but i decided to use my electives in areas that helped me develop as a whole.
Now as a senior, I realize that IT is for me. With 3 years of internships in different business areas, none in technology, its impossible to get the job I want. I've picked up an IT minor and am working on certs, but with no IT courses completed as of yet, interviews turn negative quickly. My gpa has increased each semester, but since I focused on my weaknesses its still low.
I'm interning in financial services now and I dread every day. Plus, since I dont want to go into finance, i see it as hours that could been used on learning .net, java, etc...Should I quit and focus on tech studies, or stay and aim for a finance job while improving my tech skills? I NEED a job in May!
5 AnswersOther - Careers & Employment1 decade agoNew Internship/Career Fair?
I've just started an internship with a financial company on monday(9/24) and my school is having a career fair tomorrow. Should I include this internship on my resume even though my first two days were filling legal paperwork and learning the new system? Or should i leave it off and mention it to the different recruiters as I meet them? Besides copying the job ad, there isnt much depth I could add if I decided to include it. Suggestions?
2 AnswersFinancial Services1 decade agoCisco Certifications?
I'm planning on taking the CCNA in 4 weeks, then begin studying for CCNP, and eventually CCSP. I've been studying for the ccna exam for about two months now, 10-14hrs a week with simulators and recently with actual hardware, and im pretty confident about passing. How long do ppl usually study before taking the ccnp exams.?
1 AnswerTechnology1 decade agoCreating a Database?
I'm not very experienced with databases, but I need to create one that can be easily updated and has a variety of search functions. For example, it needs to be able to produce results for a query like:
Which HS students in this district commute between 3-5 miles, come from a single family home, are involved with extracurricular activities and may need tutoring?
Random example, but the input(with dropdowns and checkboxes) and results need to be in html format so that a large group of ppl can do searches and update records without having to install/learn a new program. I may also need to produce calculations/graphs to go along with the results.
i've started reading a bit on sql/php but would appreciate any advice. especially on what programs are easiest to work with. Thanks
2 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoWhy dont basketball player list their true height?
Why do ball players inflate their height by a few inches? It doesnt make any sense to me why teams/players even bother doing this when you know most other teams are bumping it up as well. ie. magic was closer to 6'7" than 6'9", Rodman was closer to 6'6" than 6'8", same with barkley,.... and some of the incoming rookies during the predraft camp who were listed much shorter than their college height. It really doesnt make a bit of difference to the outcome of the game, but I find it annoying.
11 AnswersBasketball1 decade agoLoss of blood circulation in hand during sleep?
During sleep i tend to place my hand under my head either directly or under the pillow. Because of this, I wake up in the middle of the night with a painful and numb hand. The sensation goes away after a few seconds as I let the blood circulate back to my hand.
What can I do to stop myself from doing this?

2 AnswersLaw & Ethics1 decade agoMilitary pay?
I know our guys dont get paid much, but im thinking about joining the navy and i'm trying to map out how much of my base pay can be put away for investments(i'm 21 and i plan to retire at 41). If you've served in any branch, but esp navy, what % of your pay would you say is expendable? Also, what kind of living costs should i take into account? in my case, i dont have any commitments back home(loans, mortgage, kids.....nothing).
9 AnswersMilitary1 decade agoMarines vs. Navy- Growth Choices?
I'm a senior in college and about to finish my Finance degree. All this time I've kind of viewed it as a way for me to manage and grow my money, not really do it for other ppl...anyways, whatever I end up doing I feel I dont possess the discipline or confidence to do it effectively. I excel the most in a structured envioronment. Every standardize test I've ever taken places me at a rather high intelligence level, but i cant even break a "B" gpa in college.
I've spent the better part of the last two weeks reseaching the different branches of the military. Narrowed it down to either NAVY or MARINES. From what I've been ready on different sites, it seems Navy gets more perks(bonuses, travel....)and they have more educational courses available(I'm really into programming) but the Marines consistently tests you limits, and thats really what I want.
Does anyone have any input? and can i use the finance degree to become an officer after camp or any kidn of advancement?
