I'm 26 years old and from Australia. I'm a qualified veterinarian, but am not working due to health problems and disability. I developed Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (formerly known as Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy) following knee surgery at the age of 14, but was not diagnosed until further injury and surgery at 20 worsened my condition. Since that time it has spread to involve all four limbs and has left me wheelchair-bound. I have multiple complications including severe gastroparesis. I have experience of almost every CRPS treatment known to mankind, and am more than happy to share my experience. If anyone has any questions or just needs to talk to someone who understands what they are going through, please feel free to drop me an email. At a pinch I can also answer pet questions, but I although I try to keep my knowledge current I have not worked for several years and in any case am no substitute for your own vet.
Carpal Tunnel Syndrome and Shoulder Pain?
I have carpal tunnel syndrome in both hands - recently it has been getting worse, and as well as the pain and numbness in my hands and wrists, I have pain radiating up my arms through my elbows and a deep ache around my shoulders.
I've got to go back and see my doctor for a review but in the meantime I've read both that CTS can cause pain further up the arm and shoulder and that it can't. Do any other CTS sufferers out there get associated shoulder pain?
8 AnswersPain & Pain Management1 decade agoQuestion about Seroquel?
I'll be asking my doctor about this as soon as he is in again tomorrow but in the meantime - I started low dose seroquel last night (just 25mg) to see if it would help me to sleep, and I'm not liking it at all.
I spent the first few hours feeling very agitated and was pretty well bouncing off the walls, then I crashed out completely for an hour or so. Today I am lethargic, dizzy, falling over (which takes a fair effort given that I am in a wheelchair!). I'm aching like crazy from all the falls too.
Has anyone experienced anything like this, especially on such a low dose?
For the record, we've already tried all the more conventional drugs to help me sleep and nothing works. I'm in very severe pain, and haven't been getting more than an hour or two of very broken sleep - basically, I haven't slept in about three weeks, haven't even been to bed for five days, so we're getting a bit desperate.
Any help would be greatly appreciated :-)

2 AnswersOther - Health1 decade agoBotulinum toxin for gastroparesis?
I have very severe gastroparesis that began after a bout of food poisoning and is complicated by the fact that I take oxycodone for very severe chronic pain (Complex Regional Pain Syndrome). For various reasons I can't take any of the oral medications, so my doctor has suggested botox injections into the pylorus to see if that will improve my gastric emptying. I have had numerous conversations with my doctor and read a great many papers on its efficacy and it seems opinion is divided on whether it actually works or not.
I don't have much choice but to try it - I've lost nearly 20kg in recent months (and wasn't very big to start with!) - but was just wondering if there is anyone out there who has had this treatment? Did it work for you?
