  • Has anyone used My Father's World for Kindergarten?

We are homeschooling for Pre-K and would like to continue to do so. I am throwing together a hodge podge of stuff for curriculum this year. We are using WonderTime and Learn at Home (K) for the time being. My daughter just turned 5 and I am trying to plan ahead for next year. I had looked into Sonlight and was totally sold. My kids LOVE books and it seemed like a perfect fit. However, the price tag is pretty steep ($800+). I saw My Father's World at Mardel and decided to investigate it a bit further. It looks pretty good and is much more affordable. I also have a 3 year old and a 1 year old. I was wondering if anyone had used it and what they thought. Does it cover all subjects adequately? Would the 3 year old be interested in the material as well? And, does the system seem to do a good job as the kids get older? Thanks!

  • How soon after giving birth should I get my period?

My daughter is almost 3 months old, and still no period. I have 2 older girls, and with both of them I started when they were about 8 weeks old. I'm not breastfeeding either. I bleed for about 5 weeks after the birth of my daughter, which is normal. Then about 2 weeks later had some VERY light bleeding that lasted about 2 days. Was that my period? I've taken 2 pregnancy tests, and they were both negative. Shouldn't I have had a period by now?

  • We just found out that baby number 3, is baby girl number 3...?

We went for the ultrasound this afternoon, and were told that baby number 3 is also a girl. We have 2 beautiful, healthy incredible little girls already. I thought we were done, and sold all of their clothes, and quite a few of the essentials. I feel bad, but I was a little disappointed when we were told it is another girl. I know my husband really wanted a boy. He's okay, just a little bummed. I feel like such a jerk. I am glad the baby is healthy and growing like she should be. But I wonder, has anyone else been disappointed?

  • Middle name needed to go with Claire?

My husband and I are having some trouble with names. We go for the sonogram on the 15th (which cannot come soon enough). And we have agreed on a boy name, but the girls name is elusive! We already have a Grace and an Emma, and we like Claire. But I don't like any of the middle names I've seen. I am open for suggestions. I don't care for Claire Marie or Claire Elizabeth. Something that flows... Help! Thanks!

  • Did you notice an attitude change after your child started preschool?

My three-year-old has always been slightly opinionated. She started preschool a little over a month ago, and oh my goodness! She has the worst attitude now. She back talks, outright disobeys, and is mean to her sister. What is going on? Did this happen with your kids? Should I talk to the teacher?

  • I received a check made out to my maiden name, and signed it with my married name...?

My mother gave me a check for my birthday. (yeah) She accidentially made it out to my maiden name. I was going to sign it with a hyphen, and move on. However, when I went to the ATM to deposit it, I accidentially signed it with just my married name. I was wondering if they are going to send the check back, and take the money out of my account? Or am I worrying for no reason?

  • Lesson plans for Pre-K?

I am going to homeschool my daughter next school year. She is currently in preschool, and I often feel that the material they are tackling is too young for her. She seems a little advanced for her age. I know that Pre-K is really more for introducing letters, numbers, handwriting, playing, etc. I have all kinds of preschool workbooks, craft idea books, and worksheets, stories, etc. However, I am at a loss as to how to organize them. Is there a website I can go to that lays out weekly lesson plans? Maybe by theme? That way I can get my bearings, and use this next year to get Pre-K ready. Thanks!

  • What are some age appropriate chores for my three-year-old daughter?

My daughter is 3 and a half. She loves to help. I have a 16 month old, and another child on the way. I am tired of picking up after EVERYONE! I told her today that she was going to start having some chores, and she was so excited! Even after I told her what a chore was (oh, to be three again). I was wondering what some realistic chores are for someone her age? Thanks!

  • Do you find that you are treated like a second-class citizen...?

because of your families decision to homeschool? I posed a question in the Pregnancy and Parenting section about their thoughts on homeschool. Some of the responses were so rude and thoughtless, I about fell out of my chair! Is it like that all the time? I have done a lot of research, and am aware of the benefits of homeschooling. I know the concerns about socialization have been debunked, no one else does though. There were some really nice answers, but for the most part everyone was rude. I was called stupid and a monster. A monster, really (the monster comment was from a 13 year-old girl, so I'm not too worried). So, do you find that you have to constantly justify your choice to homeschool? Do you feel pressure to prove that your children really are smart and capable? Thanks!

  • What are your thoughts on homeschooling?

I am interested in homeschooling my children, starting in Kindergarten. It seems a little intimidating. I was just wondering what some of your thoughts about homeschool are?

I understand the concerns about socialization, but I believe that is a non-issue. My children are actively involved in our church and will be involved in some activites (whatever peaks their interest).

  • I am considering homeschooling but I am not very organized, can I do it?

I am the mother of 2 (and one on the way). My oldest is 3 and just started preschool. We would love to be able to send our kids to private school, but cannot afford the tuition (and I want to continue to be a SAHM). I was thinking about starting homeschool when my oldest goes into Kindergarten (about 2 years). I am not the most organized person, and I don't always have the most patience. How much is really involved in Homeschooling? It seems a little intimidating. How much does an average curriculum run? Can I do it? I have a friend who just started homeschooling her Kindergartner, and we are talking about doing it together. Does it help to have someone else along the way? Thanks!

  • Will the dress fit??

I have to be in a wedding in October. I have the dress and as of 3 weeks ago, it needed to be taken in. I am 8 weeks pregnant with my third child, and am wondering -- will it fit? The seamstress made an appt for the end of Sept, which allows 2 weeks before the wedding. She said she thought it would need to be taken in, but I think I am getting bigger faster! What can I do to ensure that it fits?
