  • Fixing RAID 0 on XP home?

I have an old computer with an ASUS P5B deluxe Wifi.(P965, ICH8R). XP doesn't boot up, though the bios comes on. It's been a while since I used it but it has some photos that I want to recover.(no backup!!!) The OS XP home is installed on a RAID 0 on two Seagate 250Gb hard drives. I don't think there is anything wrong with the disks(bios sees both drives) just that when I turned off the mains power, the mb may have lost some settings(reverts to default) which may have affected the bootup process. What I need to know is if I install XP on a new hard drive and then connect the two other disk will I be able to recover the data by using intels matrix manager or will I have to to repair the XP installation on the existing array.(apologies in advance as I don't have to the pc at hand to give more info as it is in the attic!)I would prefer to take the safer route without destroying any data.

  • Lighting with flashguns?

I have a Sigma DG500 SUPER and two Canon 430EX flashguns and a Canon 450D. I haven't tried this but could the Sigma be used to control the Canon flashes as it does say in the Sigma manual that it could be used in a wireless mode as the master. Plus what attachments can I use for the flash to control the spread/intensity etc. If you are providing links to products I would prefer links for companies in the UK.

  • Photoshop Elements 8.0?

Adobe has just released version 8.0. Is it worth paying more for this if I can get version 7 cheaper? I can't see any worthwhile difference except for photomerge.

  • 35mm Film processing+printing+scanning UK only?

I've used Jessops in the past but not been happy with the quality of the prints and scans. I prefer to drop the film off rather than post.(one less thing to go wrong). Looking for reasonable charges as it is not for professional use but still good quality i.e value for money.

  • Will the price of camera gear come down when the pound recovers?

With the value of the pound sliding downhill, I'ave noticed huge price rises in camera equipment. Question is, will it be worth waiting for it to come down.

  • New EOS450D JPEGs seem soft, focusing issue or settings?

Just received my new Dslr and the jpegs seem soft. Tried even my old 50mm 1.8 and the images whilst better than the kit lens don't seem biting sharp as they did on my film slr. Is it just me or have you had a similar feeling with this camera?Another question is "Does the kit lens image stabilization make any noise as mine is silent"

  • Have you got any amusing camera/photo stories?

My Aunt and Uncle were given a digital camera. They came to the UK on holiday. I was taking a photo of them and noticed the battery was low. So I mentioned it, to which my Aunt replied "Where can we buy a new one?" I then said you need to put it on the charger. She replied"What's that, we didn't bring anything else." (-:

  • How can I check how many frames my EOS450D has taken in its life?

I have just received a brand new EOS 450D from A......n.com and even though the outside box was sealed the Canon box with the manufacturers seal was broken. I want to check if the camera has been used and repackaged as I paid for a new one. Is there any way to check how photos the camera has taken?
