  • How to adjust to a new move?

My husband and I just moved to a new home, our first purchase. I have been here for a week, but lately have been feeling a little depressed. I don't have a car and walk to work. I figured it would be fine, but in our old apartment I could walk to many places. Here we are further away from everything and I feel kind of isolated. I never thought I would have trouble adjusting to a new place, because I have moved my entire life, but I am. Everything seems strange. I wish I could make friends around here, but don't know how. Can anyone offer some advice about adjusting to a new place?

  • Should fabricating an autobiography and claiming it to be non-fiction be illegal?

I don't mean exaggerations and tweaks here and there. Memory can even be faulty at times. I am talking about complete fabrications. I just found out that an self proclaimed auto-biographical book that I read was a sham. I think it is irritating, because author obviously did this to sell more books. A fantastic true story has a certain appeal to it, which can definitely draw in more readers. On the one hand the author is lying and deceiving readers, on the other, should the freedom of speech protect them and allow them to write whatever they wish?

  • How do you become more assertive?

My natural predisposition is to avoid conflict and let things go, without really taking offense if others are rude. The problem is sometimes it sets a precedent amongst more aggressive personalities, mostly in the workplace. I know sometimes conflict is nessessary, especially if someone isn't treating you respectfully. Any tips?

  • What is your response to this quote by Martin Luther King?

"True pacifism is not unrealistic submission to an evil power . . . It is rather a courageous confrontation with evil by the power of love, in the faith that it is better to be the recipient of violence than the inflicter of it, since the latter only multiplies the existence of violence and bitterness in the universe, while the former may develop a sense of shame in the opponent, and thereby bring about a transformation and change of heart."

  • Are some people just plain musically deficient?

I would love to just get carried away and lost in music that I create, but for some reason I have never had a knack for it. My siblings have always picked up instruments extremely quickly, perhaps that is why I never persued it. I am not sure if I really could.

  • Arguing with spouse, how to handle this?

Sometimes my husband and I get into arguments. I realize this is normal, but they are not the constructive type. I have realized that one key reason why our conflicts escalate is two different ways of perceiving. He is very logical and I am very feeling-oriented. I don't necessarily get so upset by what is said but by his tone and demeanor. He tries to break everything to the "cause". Sometimes where the conflict began is not the literal cause of my frustration. It is the fight it itself that is wears me down. Our fights feel like endlessly tangled balls of string spinning in chaotic loops, with no clear ends. I tend to see his as callous and unsympathetic and he sees me as illogical and moody. This is just our personalities and I love him. I just need some ideas how to reach a common ground when we are in conflicts.

  • Do I have a right to be angry?

My mother is considering moving to a foreign country with her boyfriend. I am really angry because I wonder if I will see her anymore. We live in the same state and I hardly see her now. :( I just bought a house and know I can't afford to travel anytime soon. She hardly puts any effort in keeping in touch with me, I am the one who keeps in touch with her. Now the ball will really be in her court and I wonder if she will put in any effort. I feel so frustrated and angry at her.
