Creation vs. Evolution: why not check out the other side of the argument?
OK, so I've noticed that a lot of creationists (though not all of them) attack evolution in ways that show a total lack of familiarity with even the basics of the theory. Also, a lot of folks on the evolution side (though not all of them) attack creationism without being aware of some of the more important aspects of their position. My question is WHY don't more of these people genuinely ask questions of the other side about the things they don't understand, instead of just attacking or even ignoring the other side entirely? Presumably, if people can ask questions of each other calmly, they'll get a better sense of the relative strengths of each position. So why aren't they doing that?
I guess my fundamental question is, what would we as a society need to change in order to get most of the people in the USA on both sides to go online and genuinely ask knowledgeable people on the other side questions about their beliefs? What would convince them to do that? What would stop the ignorant outrage and replace it with... uh... informed outrage?

How else are you supposed to cite your sources? Has Yahoo said anything about the problem to anyone?
