  • Sabbath Question continued?

In regards to my question about the Catholic Church changing the day of worship, thanks to all who answered. A couple of people recommended the following website. It is the best website I've ever seen regarding the Sabbath. It addressed everything that people wrote in answer to my question. It is my priviledge to pass it on to everyone.

  • Did Catholics change the Sabbath from Saturday to Sunday?

The Catholic Encyclopedia (as well as other Catholic publications) state that the Catholic Church changed the day of worship from the seventh day to the first day. The heirarchy is quite proud of this fact, even if their parishiners sometimes deny it.

"The Church, on the other hand, after changing the day of rest from the Jewish Sabbath, or seventh day of the week, to the first, made the Third Commandment refer to Sunday as the day to be kept holy as the Lord's Day." Catholic Encyclopedia (Article: Ten Commandments, second paragraph)

There is absolutely no Biblical proof of a change.

My question is, why do non-Catholics worship God on Sunday even though they know this?

  • Seventh-day Adventist Cult?

There were several questions regarding whether or not the SDAs are a cult, but all of the questions were closed to answers. There are a lot of opinions, but I would like to draw attention to the Christian Research Institute's (a non-SDA organization) findings on this question.

This is still the position taken by today's Christian Research Institute:

Though several capable Christian scholars (e.g. Anthony Hoekema, J.K. van Baalen, John Gerstner) have concluded that SDA is a non-Christian cult system, CRI has continued to assert that this is not the case. We take this position based on the content of the doctrine which was stated in an official SDA publication (1957) entitled Questions on Doctrine.

Since SDA does accept the foundational doctrines of historic Christianity (The Trinity, Christ's true deity, His bodily resurrection, etc.) we do not believe that it should be classified as a non-Christian cult.

Official Statement of the Christian Research Institute.
