  • Mercruiser Sterndrive installation question...?

I am trying to install the sterndrive and it stops about 3/4 of an inch before making it all the way in. The shift cable is sliding in alright. The shift tab is lining up. The splines are engaging (I was actually able to turn the engine with the prop). I did align the engine right before trying to install it. I am lost. I thought maybe a gasket was in the way, but I even changed gaskets with no luck. The only thing I can think is to clean the splines out again and try once more. Has anyone else had a problem like this? BTW it's a 1973 140 HP Mercruiser, and the engine and outdrive have been together before.

  • Beach Breakfast buffet in Pass-a-Grille/St.Pete Beach area?

A friend of mine was telling me about a breakfast buffet on the beach in what he thought was Pass-a-Grille but he said it could have been St. Pete Beach, he just knew it wasn't Treasure Island. It was open to anyone not just people staying at any particular hotel. He said it has decent food for like $8 a person or something like that. Apparently they are only open 5 or 6 days a week, and I am just trying to find out more information about it.

  • Subaru Forester timing belt change?

I was asked to look at a Forester SL (I believe it was a 98) that the timing belt went out on while he was driving. He was told the gear went out on it. I am just a mechanic as a hobby and I only have experience with V-8 and V-6 Fords and GMs, and 4 banger Hondas, but I have never heard of the timing gear breaking. I've heard that the flat 4s are a ***** to work on and I wonder if anyone could tell me what I may be getting into by looking at this for him. The guy I am doing this for knows almost nothing about cars, and I am wondering if someone told him the (tensioner) pulley broke and he only remembers it as the gear, b/c that is what I seem to be finding on line. Also, I seem to be finding conflicting reports as to whether this is an interference engine or not. I told him I don't mess with valve damage and since he was driving when this happened I am afraid that it has some damage. Any help anyone could offer would be great. This guy is low on $ and I am trying to help him out
