  • What do you think of the beginning of my short story/novel?

I haven't really decided if I want this to become a short story or a novel yet, I'm still thinking.

I was wondering if you guys could view the first part of my short story/novel and give me some constructive criticism and/or correct any grammatical errors/spelling mistakes as you see them.

    I'm 14 :) Thanks!

I stepped out of my black Toyota Matrix and walked up the creaky, wooden steps to my front door.

“Mom?” I yell. I heard no reply, so again I yell, “Mom? Are you home? Mom?”

I realized very quickly that something wasn’t right. My mother was always home when I got back from school. She didn’t work, she was a stay at home mom, and she didn’t go out much during the day.

I slowly walked throughout my house; peeking my head into each and every room. My mother was nowhere to be found. There was only one place I hadn’t checked yet, the basement. I dreaded the basement. I’ve watched too many movies to not be scared of downstairs.

Trying to overcome my fear of this particular place in my house, I steadily walked down the stairs, being careful not to fall. I held onto the old, loose rail to my right, thinking that if I fell it would support me and prevent myself from falling. I knew that was a load of crap, considering this house is about 300 years old.

As I reached the bottom of the staircase, I heard a strange noise. It kind of sounded like a moan, or a mumble.

“Mom?” I called out. I heard shuffling in the back of the basement, along with a noise that no longer sounded like a moan or a mumble. It sounded like someone trying to scream, but their mouth was shut closed with something.

I tried to turn on the light switch to the basement, but it wasn’t working. I took out my white iPhone and unlocked it quickly. I opened up my flashlight app and used it to guide my way through the room.

As I walked deeper into the basement, the noise became louder. It sounded like a chair scraping against hardwood flooring, and someone trying to scream through a cloth material.

I reached a door at the back of my basement and put my ear up to it. I could hear the noise very clear now. I winced as I slowly opened the door and saw my mother tied up in a chair with duct tape on her mouth.

When she saw me, she started to cry. She looked relived that I had showed up when I did. I ripped the duct tape off of my mother’s mouth and she franticly said, “Oh, God. Oh, God. Thank you! Oh, God! Untie me, Isabelle, please! Untie me!”

Still in shock, I followed my mother’s commands and I untied her from the chair. Unable to say anything, I looked in her pale, green eyes. “What happened?” I had managed to choke out a few seconds later.

  • My brother steals my money?

My 13 year old brother is a THIEF.

This is the second time that I've found out about this, but that's not to say it hasn't happened more times.

I have a piggy bank inside of my bedroom, and I put my loose change in there.

Today when I came back from school, I noticed that my piggy bank was moved from the specific spot I always have it in, and the top was loose.

I've noticed that he took my quarters, loonies, and toonies from the bank, leaving me pennies, nickles, and dimes.

I went downstairs furiously and told my mother, and she didn't do a thing. All she did was shake her head.

I know it was only a few bucks, but I'm only fourteen, and I don't have much!

I shouldn't have to hide MY money in MY OWN ROOM. I feel so angry right now, and I don't know what to do, hence the reason I'm writing this right now.

What do I do about this?

  • I am addicted to Black Ops II and I am starting to confuse fantasy and reality. Help?

Okay, so, just the other month I was introduced to Black Ops II. I instantaneously fell in-love. It is the funnest game I've ever played. I would play day and night, and even miss college classes to stay in my dorm and play it.

Lately, I'm starting to confuse fantasy and reality. Every time I'm done playing, I feel like the game's still going on, even though the console is turned off and I'm back in the real world. I've been dreaming every night about Black Ops II. My friend said that it's starting to get weird because I will randomly zone out and think about Black Ops II. When I turn corners in the real world, I go slow and am ready to aim and shoot.

The other day my PS3 lost connection for a few hours and I broke down crying and refused to do anything else. I, again, missed class. I'm starting to isolate myself from the real world, and my friends are becoming distant. I feel like Black Ops II is my world, and my world is ruining my life.

I don't know what's wrong with me, Is this normal?

  • My brothers steal my money?!?!?

Okay, so in my bedroom, I have this big jar thing where I put all my spare change in. It's an automatic change counter aswell.

So, I come home from school and I notice that a significant amount of money is taken from it, and all of my 'bigger' change (loonies, toonies and quarters) are gone, but my dimes, nickles and pennies are still there. Also, the jar was moved from where I regularly have it, and the lid isn't screwed on tight.

I tell my mum and she says "Oh well I can't do anything about it. You should have hid it!"

WHAT THE HELL. They shouldn't be going in my room & taking money from me anyways! I shouldn't have to hide my own money that's already in my room!

What do I do about this? Apparently nobody in my house cares about my belongings.

  • what type of rock is this? *~*Pics included*~*?

My uncle gave me this rock to help him find out what it is.

The rock has one flat, glossy side, and the other side is rounded and lumpy.

On the glossy side, it is brown, but in the middle it's like a blue-grey colour, and the blue-grey colour is in the shape of what looks like a map. It has a sticker at the bottom that readds "Oregon Museum of Science and Industry"

On the bumpy side, it is brown with lines that kind of stick out and it reminds me of like a volcano or something. It's very rough feeling, very opposite to the other side. It kind of looks like the outside of a nut..

  • Why does my dog eat when someone comes home?

Well every time someone comes home, my dog will greet them and then run to his food dish and start eating. He does this EVERY TIME, even if we're just gone for 10 minutes or so. He'll do this is all five of us leave and come back, and even if just one of us leave the house and come back.

    Why does he do this?

    Thanks xx

  • How can a 14 year old earn money FAST?

I'm 14 years old, and I need money within a week, by Christmas.

I have almost all of my Christmas shopping done, I just need about $30 for my mother's present!

I'm really upset about this, I didn't realize how fast money could go.

Anyways, I have a babysitting job, but they won't need me until the New Year.

There is no snow on the ground yet for some reason, so shoveling drive ways is out of the question.

It's much too cold to do yard sales or lemonade stands.

What are some other ways to earn money within a week?

  • What do you think of the First Part of my novel/short story?

I'm 14 years old and in grade 9. For my English class, we need to write a short story/novel. I chose to write mine about child abuse/neglect. Below I have attached the first part/half of the first chapter of the story I'm writing. Is it worth continuing? What are some changes and edits I can make? Any ideas? Thanks a TON.(:

I just stood there, taking it all in; the pain, the rejection, the humiliation. Insult after insult I was bombarded to the point where each word felt like a blow to the head. The feeling in my stomach wasn’t leaving; it was a tattoo that’d be there forever, even if it was removed, it’d still leave a scar.

Believing every word this person said to me and questioning myself was horrible. I felt the sting of a tear fill my eye like a toilet bowl after it has been flushed. The sting turned into a stream of emotions falling free out of my pale green eyes… It felt good to cry, it’s starting to become an addiction…

Am I really a screw up? A piece of crap? Annoying? Stupid? A mistake? Fat? Ugly? A disappointment?

Where I am or not, I’m sure starting to believe it. Who has the right to make someone feel so bad about themselves that they want to fall asleep in a trance; and then never wake up?

I’m in my bedroom, isolating myself from the world outside. I don’t hang out with anyone besides at school. I mean, when I’m at school, I’m a different person. I’m happy, smart, well-focused, and I always have a smile on my face… At least, that’s what they think.

Behind the happiness is sadness, beneath the smart girl is someone stupid, beyond the well-focused girl is someone wondering when the next stab to their heart will be. Beyond, behind, past, beneath everything is a girl trapped in a pool of tears, drowning… Begging to escape.

  • *URGENT* Can a mother cat nurse strange kittens?

My friend's cat had just had 4 babies. Unfortunately the mother cat died during the birth of the final kitten.

Two weeks ago, my cat gave birth to 4 babies herself. We were wondering if our cat would nurse the newborn kittens, even if they aren't her own.

    PLEASE ANSWER ASAP.
