I'm a part-time musician (singer/ keyboards) living in Washington DC and working at a hospital. I am a Christian, but a "New Thought" Christian. I honor everyone's right to choose whatever belief structure works for them. It's none of my business!!!!! But I like having interesting discussions about various topics. I do not, on the other hand, have a whole lot of tolerance for people who are haters - so I've blocked a few people, because reading their hate-mongering responses actually makes me kind of nauseous. You don't have to believe what I believe, but I would hope you can be respectful. I am also gay - so if you don't believe in equal rights for all, you may not be interested in my opinion about anything. And I love a good joke - and especially questions that start with "Spiritually speaking..."

  • Non-Christians: Do you really want an answer?

Or would you prefer to hold on to your own beliefs about Christians? I've been around Y/A for a while and find that there are many people who believe that all Christians are the same, share the same beliefs and believe that everyone who is not a Christian is going to hell.

Yesterday I answered someone's question which suggested that all Christians believe everyone else is going to hell. I responded that I didn't actually believe in hell. He/she gave me Best Answer with the lowest rating possible and noted that I still believe in punishment for others. I was going to email this person and say that I don't believe in punishment as is traditionally taught by SOME Christan religions. This user won't allow email from other users.

I'm sure that there are many Christians on this forum who are the same way - pose a question not to open a dialogue but to shove their beliefs down other people's throats. They don't really want to examine other possibilities.

I guess I don't get the point of using Y/A for a personal soap box. Why don't some of the users here just write a blog instead? I don't get it.

  • What am I doing wrong?

I try to help others, I try to follow where spirit directs me. But people tend to be crap. Why am I inviting this into my world? What have I done to make people respond to me in such a negative fasion?

  • Who is a real Christian?

    Hi Friends -

I got another one of those emails from someone this morning. In it the person said "Please stop calling yourself a Christian..." and went on to quote some Bible at me.

Do you guys get a lot of this? I'm just curious what is in the minds of people who think they have the definitive answer to 'what a Christian is' and then are inspired to tell people who and what they are.

I personally believe in Christ Spirit, go to a (non-denominational) Christian church and do my best every day to live up to my best expression of God and Christ Spirit.

How do you respond to these people? And if you are one of these people who feel it's OK to email me and tell me I'm not a Christian, I would suggest you not, because my response is to block you from emailing me. While this forum may be open to your opinion and I will support your right to your opinion, my inbox is not open for your judgment.

  • What's the difference between Unitarian and Unitarian Universalist?

Are they the same or not? Or did one develop out of the other?

    Just curious.

    Have a great day.

  • How many believe that all Christians have the same beliefs? ?

Just because I'm seeing this a lot today - I have to ask - how many of you really believe that all denominations of Christianity believe and practice the same things?

Not trying to offend - just curious if it's a vocal minority or really the majority of non-Christians that believe this.

  • Need a spiritual based study - open minded answers only please!?

Hi My R&Sers. My friend at work is looking for a spiritual practice or maybe a religion to study. She was raised Baptist (didn't work out) and I suggested maybe Buddhism because I believe she's Agnostic. It doesn't necessarily need to be Deity or Theist based.

I don't think she'd be into Wicca - but I'm hoping you all might make some suggestions for her. She's feeling called to spiritual study. Your suggestions?

And please - I'm a Christian so don't tell me who is or isn't going to Hell. I'm just not into that kind of bashing today.

    Thanks all!

  • Spiritually speaking...spell check?

Have they really removed the spell check button from the answer section of Y/A?

I may be the only one - but I think this could create a big gap between users and instead of discussing belief structures, we'll be bashing one another about spelling.

    Is anyone else concerned?

  • Question about Animists?

Hi - I just read a question about Paganism and two people responded that they are Animists.

I'm completely unfamiliar with this. Could any of you give a brief description of Animism for me so I can better understand?

    Thanks!

  • Hi Pagans - Need your help...?

Hi there Pagans - hope you're having a great day.

My question - I just don't know enough about Paganism. Can you suggest a pretty straight forward book that outlines not only the history but some of the commonly accepted practices as well.

    Thanks!

  • Ex-Smokers - your opinions please..?

Hi - I'm quitting smoking today - after 34 years. It's just the perfect time. I've been cutting down for a week now and it's not as though I'm having any kind of difficulty with withdrawal this time around.

My question - I have been REALLY tired since I've cut my cigarette intake. Did any of you experience this when you quit or cut down? I mean my energy is really in the toilet. I'm just wondering what that's about.

Also - I'm assuming that as my lungs come back to life, I might be hacking for a while - any thoughts you have about what to expect during the transition would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks!

  • Catholics - your thoughts on the "no female priests" issue?

    Hi -

I'm really just curious - not judging here.

I just want to know what Catholics think about the Pope reiterating the rule that women cannot be Priests.

I’d also like to know what reason you feel one way or the other and what country you’re from.

Non-Catholics – your opinions are welcome, but can we keep it polite?

    Thanks all.

  • Ring on your Pinky Finger - Poll?

    HI -

I'm having a discussion with a bunch of people at work about rings on Pinky fingers. They want me to do a poll and get everyone's feedback on this topic:

When you see someone wearing a pinky ring, what does that symbolize for you?

    Thanks for your feedback.

  • Since God is Omnipresent, how can there be a hell?

Some one called me a cherry picker the other day and suggested I just pull the things I like from the Bible and ignore the rest.

I don't believe in Hell - I believe God is Omnipresent and therefore, there is no place that God cannot be.

So my reasoning tells me - either there is no hell, or God is there.

Curious to know what you think.

    Thanks

  • Christianity & Religion - why do people think they are the same?

In R & S I keep reading all this questions that start with "Why do Christians..." or "The Christian religion..." etc. I'm curious - do most non-Christians think that all Christians are the same? Do people really believe that Christianity is a Religion?

Obviously, I'm a Christian - but I'm not a Catholic or a Lutheran or a Methodist - my beliefs are nothing like a lot of other Christians. I believe in Reincarnation, I like Ekhart Tolle's books and I don't believe in hell. I have lots of friends that are Agnostic and / or Athiest.

Seriously - do you think we're all the same? That's like saying all people with brown eyes are the same -or all people that live in Texas are the same.

Looking forward to your responses - thanks.
