I'm an atheist. I like proof. I love science. I dislike people who do not question. I'm an undergrad at FSU, going into the US Army after college. I don't mind people emailing me if you want to debate an issue. Not only an R&S guy. You can talk to me about surfing, the US military, foreign policy, International relations, Economics and more recently- skydiving! Rest in Peace Pat Tillman. My friggin hero.

  • Xbox 360 Slim Won't Turn On?

Always taken great care of my Xbox.

The other day, after about an hour of gaming, I turned my Xbox off. About 48 hours later, after trying to turn it on I get a "chime" but no power to the box. My power brick has a solid orange light on it. I tried using another power brick and I got the same orange light so I'm guessing the problem is most likely with my Xbox.

I take great care of my electronics, so I'm not sure how the console is malfunctioning. I'm just outside my warranty, so that's not an option. I've heard about how USB port prongs can create a circuit and prevent your Xbox from turning on, but all my USB ports are pristine. Anyone have any idea as to what could be causing this?

  • Best way to reattach football cleat outsole?

Got myself a pair of Laser III's about four months ago. I take good care of them and clean them regularly, only thing is I left them in my car for about a week. Looks like the heat of the car melted the glue holding the outsoles to the boot itself. Only a small part of the outsole is coming off, however.

Anyways, looking for a good way to glue these guys back into shape. Any recommendations on the adhesive? Methods? etc.

  • What does the word "Theory" mean in science?

This is less of a question and more of an instructional session for those ignorant of the definition of the word "theory" in the modern scientific community.

Recently, there has been a few questions regarding the theory of Evolution. Some people have dismissed this theory based on the fact that it is a theory.

While colloquial language may apply a "shaky" connotation to the word "theory", in the scientific community a theory is the most concrete understanding of a subject matter available. A theory is not a hypothesis. It is not a guess, or even an educated guess. It is a combination of scientific FACTS with hypothesis to better explain a certain phenomena.

There is nothing more concrete in science than theory. Facts are lower on the totem pole than theory.

I don't want to hear anyone say, "Well it's just a theory, so its bs." ever again. Ignorance is not an excuse.

If you don't understand scientific lingo, then don't use it. Ignorance is not an excuse.

  • What would an "Intelligent Design" class teach?

Just curious as to understand what the curriculum for such a class would be. I ask this, because the country i live in seriously entertains the idea of teaching both ID and the Theory of Natural Selection.

It seems that ID has no substance, rather it relies on the current absence of answers in modern science to insert its own hypotheses of theological doctrine.

Ex- ID proponent: The kangaroo ankle is irreducibly complex, disprove that.

Evolution proponent: We currently do not have enough data to form an accurate conclusion. We continue to collect every day.

ID proponent: You have no immediate answer, therefore ID fills the "gap"

  • Realtek HD Audio Manager good settings?

Just installed an Asus P5N-D not too long ago. Came with the audio manager listed in the title. Not really an audio freak who tweaks every little thing.

I have option to make my music sound like i'm in a rock hall, a hallway, sewer pipe, bathroom, airplane- all this wonderful and seemingly retarded settings.

Anyone have any recommended setting so i can listen to music without it sounding like i'm in a sewer pipe.

Thanks a bunch. I'm an idiot.

  • I have a negative balance in my checking account. Is there a window of time i need to meet?

    $524.24

Overdraft fees that i encountered on my statement. I thought my card would just get rejected when i ran out of funds, but apparently they save me the "trouble" of having it rejected and just charge me $35 for every payment instead.

Anyways, do i have a window of time in which i need to have this paid back?

    Any additional info is welcome?

Paying this back and buying a ******* safe. I hate banks.

  • Head pain when working out?

    Hey guys,

This has only happened a couple of times, but when i go to the gym and work out, sometimes in the middle of an exercise(Incline bench today) my head just starts pounding. Almost like a nastyy headache.

I thought this might be due to improper breathing, so i focused on my breathing, inhaling and exhaling slowly, but it barely reduced the throbbing pain in my head.

Anyone know what might be going on?

Doesn't happen every time i work out....

  • US Army SF: Officer or Enlisted?

    Hey guys.

After college I'm looking to join the US Army, and like some of my family members, join the US Army SF.

My main question is in regards to the roles of Officers within SF and NCO's.

I loved the idea of leading, and was naturally drawn to the responsibility demanded from the position of an officer, however i was honestly appalled when i heard from a source that SF officers cycle out of service with an ODA, unlike enlisted NCO's who continue to serve in an ODA until they retire or are no longer capable.

I love leading and responsibility, but i don't want to serve a "term" with an ODA and then get cycled out so i can sit in air-conditioned slendor while other guys get their hands dirty- I'm all about doing work and getting stuff done.

Can anyone confirm or deny this statement?

    Thanks a bunch.

  • Is Satan all-powerful?

Can a Christian explain to me the power distribution and struggle between Satan and God?

If god is all powerful, and Satan is the enemy of god, then why not just wink Satan out of existence? Does Satan have some power over the all-powerful, omniscient and omnipotent god?

I'm a bit confused as to how this works..

  • What do you Christians think of Pat Tillman?

Pat Tillman was a record breaking college linebacker for ASU in the 90's.

He held a 3.8 GPA at ASU.

He went into the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals and played succesfully as a starter.

He joined the Army after the events of 9/11, turning down a 3.6 million dollar contract to keep playing NFL ball.

He served in an elite group of soldiers known as the Unites States Army Rangers.

    He was killed in A-stan.

    He was also an Atheist.

What do those facts make him to you? Christians are confused at the system of thought and morality of Atheists. An Atheist presidential candidate wouldn't even get close due to our Christian nation's fear of Atheistic beliefs.

What do you fear from Pat Tillman?

  • Some good lower back exercises?

I'm good with my lat and trap exercises, but i know that having a strong lower back is key to preventing back injuries and to correct posture.

If anyone knows some good exercises that would work on the mid-lower back- that would be great.

  • For theists who consider their "Chances" of being correct relatively high?

I did some perusing and some research(Something i recommend to everybody on R&S).

I own a book, the 2000 version, called the World Christian Encyclopedia.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/World_Christian_Encyc...

It is regarded as a legitimate source to religious statistics.

This book has shown over 150 religions with followers at, or above one million.

1/150= a .06 percent chance of being correct if you label yourself Christian, Muslim, Jew, etc.

Now, if we take all religions with less than one million adherents, the figure jumps from 150 religions to 10,000.

Your chances have now dropped to .01%.

Now if you're a christian, your chances are going to drop even further. According to the Christian World Encyclopedia, there are 33,830 different religions based on the Christian structure which were obviously not used in the previous calculations.

your chances of being in the right denomination, let alone the right RELIGION, just fell to .002%.

How does that make you feel?

  • Desktop wallpaper issues?

    Hey guys-

I'm normally competent with computers, but this problem is annoying me.

I'm trying to get a pic to be my wallpaper, but when i stretch it, it distorts the image. Almost the entire image is black, so i figured that if i centered it, which would preserve the quality of the pic, i could have black all around it.

The problem is, is that my XP seems to have a standard blue background for centered images. Is there anyway to make this black?

    http://www.flickr.com/photos/43100006@N08/39665860...

^That's a link to a pic of my desktop. If you save it and magnify, you can see what I'm talking about. I'd like the standard blue background to be black as so it can go with the pic.
