  • Are these rides at WDW too scary for a 4 year old?

Will be taking my 4 year old son to WDW in early May. I am worried some of my favorites could be too scary for him. The ones I am concerned about are the Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Carribean at Magic Kingdom & Test Track 2.0 and Maelstrom at EPCOT. He is tall enough for these rides, and they are great rides, but I can skip them if they will freak him out. Anyone taken their young kids on these rides? How did they do? Thanks!

  • What are must haves for a trip to Disney for a 4 year old?

We will be going in early May. My mom and I are taking my 4 year old son. This will be his first trip to Disney. We plan to rent a stroller, not from Disney, that reclines and has a good sun cover. We are taking snacks, sunscreen, and lightweight clothes. Didn't know if I was missing anything. Thanks!

  • Tips for frosting a cake without the cake crumbling?

I am making a cake for my son's 2nd birthday. My biggest problem with a cake ( from a mix ), is that when I frost it, the cake crumbles and peels and looks horrible! Is it the cake, the frosting, or what? Any tips? I am not opposed to making a cake from scratch, but need a good recipe. Thanks!

  • Salmon is pink, so how do you know when it is done?

Hubby was trying to help out by cooking dinner while I was out running errands. Problem is, he cooked the salmon "on about 175 for about two hours. " O...K... How do I know if it is done? It was cookie sheet baked with nothing else, not wrapped, open to oven heat. Thanks!

  • Why did you choose to home school your child?

We have two boys that are 3 and 1. My husband would like to homeschool them and I don't really care one way or another. I can see pros and cons with both. Why did you choose homeschool and what are the major pros and cons you have discovered? Thanks!

  • Which WDW resort hotel offers the best kids' amenities?

On my last question I decided to stay on WDW property for our trip next summer with my mother and four year old son. Now I need opinions on where the best place to stay is with a young child. Specifically, kiddie pools, playgrounds, kids clubs, hotel restaurants, water slides, game rooms, and other resort activities that a typical four year old boy would like. We don't plan to stay all day at the theme parks and will probably have a several hour break in the middle of each day for naps and resort recreation. My mother is paying for our accomodations and luckily, has the budget for a deluxe hotel if that is what we decide on. But that is not necessary to me. I just want my son to have things to do on the resort property, so if the All Star hotels are best for that criteria then we will stay there. I moved to Virginia in 2006 and this will be my first trip back and my first ever with a child. Any input is appreciated.

  • Going to WDW next July!! Where to stay, where to stay? WDW experienced parents with young kids, please read!?

This trip will be with my mother, me , and my 4 year old son. My mother has offered to pay for our accommodations if we pay for our tickets and go Dutch on food. She can afford the high end Disney resorts, which is nice. But, for the same price of a hotel room at $500 a night, I have discovered we can rent a luxury home! And a super nice one, too! I love Disney as does my mom so we like the experience of WDW, which we would miss, but this house is GORGEOUS! My son has never been to Disney before but is not really big into amusement parks. He would like the characters, though. Plus we would miss some of the great food Disney has to offer. I would like to take him on the monorails and would love to avoid the hassle of driving around WDW. I am torn...What would you do?

  • I hate going outside, but my kids enjoy it. Help please!?

I am not an outdoors girl and probably never will be, but I am trying to work on it since my two boys (who are 3 and 16 months) enjoy going out. What do you do with your kids outside? Do you have play sets or outdoor toys? How long do you play outside daily? Thanks!

  • I'm thinking about an iPad but don't know much about them. Can you help with these questions?

I would like to get one but we live in the middle of nowhere (almost literally) and I do not want to buy something I can never use. So here are my questions:

-Do you have to have a cell phone plan to use one?

-How does it pick up internet? Wi-Fi? Or through a router or something like that?

-How do you get the apps for it?

-Silly question, but can you play Angry Birds and Plants vs Zombies on it?

-How heavy duty are they? I have a 1year old and a 3 year old. I don't intend for the baby to play with it, but wouldn't mind the 3 year old playing it. Will it stand up to normal kid use?

-Is one model better than another?

-Is there a monthly fee with associated with it?

    -Does it come in colors?

I realize some of these question may sound dumb, but I truly don't know and would like to be as informed as possible before making a decision. Thanks!

  • 'Extreme Couponing' on TLC has inspired me! But where do I start?

'Extreme Couponing' on TLC has inspired me! But where do I start?

I would love to trim some money from the grocery and household goods budget using coupons. How to start, though?

I know many people that are serious about this use internet and mail order coupons but where do they get them? What websites? How do I order them?

I also know that many people go on "double coupon" days. How do I find out about them? Do I call the stores and ask, check their website? Do any national (or regional) chains even do this anymore?

Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks so much!

  • Out of bread crumbs! Looking for a breading recipe I can use on boneless skinless chicken breast?

Easy and basic please! We are snowed in and I cannot go out. We have basic cereals (corn flakes, cheerios, rice krispies, etc.) plus basic seasonings (salt, pepper, garlic pepper, etc.). Can these things be used to make a bread crumb coating?

  • Is there a way to bake chocolate chip cookies so they stay soft?

My husband loves chocolate chip cookies! We have a really good tasting recipe, but after they have been out of the oven for an hour or so, they get hard and crunchy. Is there a chocolate chip cookie recipe where the cookies stay soft and chewy past the first few minutes out of the oven? Or do all cookies get crunchy after being out of the oven for a while?

  • Do big babies stay big their whole life?

When our second son was born he weighed 8lbs 14oz and was 22 inches long. Normal, but on the big side of normal. He is now 9 months old and weighs 30lbs 12oz and is 30 inches tall. The doctor is not at all concerned because he is heavy and tall and has a much larger than normal head circumference. He is measuring in at the size of a 21 month old. He cannot wear shoes because his feet are so wide, but his feet are the length of a size 6 toddler shoe. His hands are only1/4 inch smaller than his almost 3 year old brother. He is very healthy and only gets the occasional cold.

Anyway, I am not concerned about his being so big, I am just wondering what to expect as he gets older. Is he going to be huge? Or do some babies go through their growth early and then stop for a while? I know his older brother has only gained 2 pounds and half of an inch since he was two, and he will be 3 next month. So he was very big for a while too and then leveled out. Does anyone have any personal experience with big babies that just continued to grow?Or with big babies that ended up "normal"? Just wondering.

Also, does anyone make a size 7 diaper? The baby has been in size 6 since he was 3 months old. They are very tight on him. Thanks!

  • Question about eggs and baby yogurt for a 9 month old.?

I have seen Gerber baby yogurt in stores and it says it is made with real milk. BUt, babies aren't supposed to have milk until 1 year. Are these meant for older babies? If this yogurt is OK for babies, like my son who is 9 months, then what would be the difference between this baby yogurt and store brand adult yogurt? They both have real milk in them.

Also, I remember hearing or reading that eggs shouldn't be given to babies until they are older. We eat hard boiled eggs often in our house and they are soft and would be a good consistency for him to eat. Do we need to wait on these?

    Thanks!

  • Those with children who didn't sleep through the night until later, please read!?

We have a seven and a half month old son who isn't even CLOSE to sleeping through the night. He still wakes up an average of 5 times a night.

I have spoken to several people lately who have said things like, "Oh, my son didn't sleep through the night until he was three years old." or "My 5 year old daughter has never slept through the night!" Really?!?! I mean I am sure it's possible, but is there a reason?

I am wondering, for those of you who had/have children who didn't sleep through until much later, did you ever discover a reason? And what was it? Hungry, needed touch, no music, too much commotion? We have tried everything we can think of to help our son sleep better. We are exhausted, but he has little bags under his eyes some nights because he hasn't slept well. We don't want this to affect his development. If he doesn't sleep through until much later, so be it. But, I don't want him to be in pain, or uncomfortable or anything like that that we could prevent. Any advice is appreciated.

  • Possible diabetic yeast infection rash? Possible TMI!?

I have had a rash that feels like a heat rash on the underside of both of my breasts. They are half on the breast and half on the torso under the breast. I thought they were heat rashes, since I have them often, but they have not gone away this time. They are instead getting larger (now larger than a softball) and very inflamed looking. The top outer edges are extremely raw, almost to the point of bleeding. They look, and feel, like a bad carpet burn. The bottom edges are raised and almost scaly looking. They are both perfectly circular in shape.

I had gestational diabetes and have a family history of diabetes, plus I weigh more than I should. I still have my glucose meter from my last pregnancy and have been testing an hour after each meal for two days and nothing has been over 120, though my two morning readings before breakfast have both been in the 90s.

I will be going to the doctor as soon as my work schedule and doctor's schedule don't overlap. I also realize this is no substitute for a medical evaluation, but it is all I have right now. I am sure there are some people on here who have diabetes and it maybe presented itself with a nasty rash. Just looking for opinions on whether this was a diabetic yeast infection rash or something else. Thank you!

  • Suggestions on transitioning to a fast flow nipple?

I have a 6 month old son who is having trouble with a fast flow nipple. Every time we try he chokes or quite a bit will run out of his mouth. We have tried sitting him up to feed him and the same thing happens. The only way we can get him to drink out of a fast flow is if we stop and take the bottle out of his mouth every 5 seconds or so, but then he gets frustrated.

I wouldn't really worry about it, but he is still waking up at least 4 times a night (from 10pm - 5am) and will usually only eat an ounce. Then he usually goes right back to sleep. A fast flow nipple would get more formula in him to fill up his belly, wouldn't it? During the day he rarely drinks more than 2 oz at a time, but will want to eat hourly or every two hours. We also give him a container of baby food twice a day.

So...did your child have trouble with a fast flow nipple or just take to it immediately? Tips on how to make the transition easier would be appreciated. Thanks!
