  • Awkward moment in volleyball?

I was in a friendly, non-competitive game of volleyball. A lady came in all of a sudden and told me to change places with her so she can play... I asked her why we couldn't both play, 7 people total on a team. She just, "because we can't." I ended up leaving very angry to avoid a fight.

The others waited for someone to get tired playign to get tagged to replace them. I thought it's strange that this lady targeted me and demanded I change places with her. Is this how a friendly game of volleyball works? How would you hav handled it?

  • Do I give up on this friendship? How can I save what's left of it?

I have a friend from college who just happened to move into my neighborhood, 4 doors down from my parents and I. This lady was always very warm, caring, positive, had a positive aura about her. In college, we were good friends, no doubt about that...

Now, 8 years later-or-so, what happened is a mystery. When I first ran into her, she was taking a walk with her 2 young daughters. She gladly accepted my company and we were in process of catching up on what we'd each been doing the last decade-or-so. This was almost a year ago, I believe, but I remember it clearly, like it was yesterday. That summer, I would kind of stroll over to her house a few times, knock on her door a few times and make small talk. She didn't seem to mind.

Then everything changed suddenly; I would see her strolling around with her kids and I came up and she seemed awkward... I asked if I need to leave her alone with her kids, and she said that this was the only "quality" time she got to spend with them... she was on maternity leave, though, and was home every day with them. The first time we walked together, she was very warm towards me, and the next few times I tried ot join her, she was the opposite. What happened was beyond me.

Just a few days ago, I tried to suggest that she and her family join me for bbq one day; she turned me down, basically saying - they have their own friends now... I couldn't help and said, "was I not your friend before and now"?

How can this be fixed? A written later, maybe?

  • SHould I leave this planning group? Pls help.....?

I've been part of a small group with old classmates where we've helped one another plan our high school reunion. But, sadly, I could not make most meetings due to a severe panic disorder and agoraphobia I've developed over the years.

I still wanted to join the group in effort to revitalize my social life, learn a thing or two about group work, and push myself harder to get out of the house.

However, the last few weeks have been very rough on me - about 90 percent of the comments and questions I ask in the Facebook group we've been sharing are almost completely ignored... I've made it to only 3 meetings so far, though, out of maybe 7 or 8.

What would you do in my situation........ Give up, leave group? Stick it out 'till the end, anyway?

  • Is this wrong to say to an old friend who's a laywer now....?

I have an old friend whom I was always close to and never censored or altered my words in any way in the past. Now, we're all grown up and she has a law degree; I respect that, but I don't wanna forget that I'm still an old friend, not another random client.

THis is what I said to her. Is this as offensive to an unbiased party, meaning anyone reading this, as it was to her....?

"heeeey, my mom wants to know ifffff you can.... help us 'cause she and my dad wants me to declare bankruptcy since I'm 81,000 in debt w/my education. We'll pay you if you can.... either come over or meet in coffeeshop or over internet? I so wanna see you in work uniform

    prolly look sexy........"

THis is what she replied with.......

"This is inappropriate and please refrain from speaking to me in that way."

    :'(

Is this typical between old friends? I don't know if I want old friends to treat me in business-like manner only! I dont' get it..........

  • Help me understand this joke, pls?

I found it in honor of a Greek friend of mine, but he was too drunk to understand, and I'm not savvy enough in world history:

A Greek and Italian were sitting down one day debating who had the superior culture. The Greek says, "We have the Parthenon"The Italian says, "We have the Colosseum"The Greek says "We had great Mathematicians"The Italian says "We had the Roman Empire"...and so on and so on and then the Greek says: "We invented sex"The Italian says "That is true, but it was the Italians whointroduced it to women."

  • Is my ma making too big a deal outa "inconveniencing" people?

I happen to be disabled with extreme anxiety/panic and can't be alone in the house as of now........ My ma and aunt wanna go on a trip and there are 2 days which we need someone here for me. My aunt can do it, but she can't drive herself. My dad and I wanted to ask very nicely if her boyfriend could drive her, just for two days. We need this and we were hoping if it goes strongly against their schedule or he'd feel overwhelmed, that he would say something to her and they'd come up with an excuse to say "no."

My mom claims - since my aunt didn't bring it up herself, we need to "assume" that her boyfriend will not do it and not even ask, or we're pushing it. Does this seem a bit extreme? I don't understand my mom here at all.

We're on good terms with both of them; they always come to our gettogethers. My mom is a bit... mad, maybe, that my aunt once laughed when some machine/device at a doctor's office fell on my grandma... I guess it wasn't nice, but without being close to someone, people accidentally find humor in things. It was insensitive back then, but still.

Do you guys see what my ma sees? Not to even ask... I don't get it.

  • Racial joke question?

A friend of mine posted this joke and I didn't get it... it's semi-famous in the racist joke world:

Why does Beyonce say "to the left, to the left"? Because black people have no rights....

Does it make sense to others? I've been trying to understand it many days now and still hitting a brick wall.....

  • Question to any EMT staff workers, or nurses, pls :)?

I have a self-published book that I'm editing now, rather choosing which of the edits from my grammar-savvy friend to keep. I was wondering - if a boy had a drug overdose from, possibly, cocaine or heroin, what would be his symptoms? Unconscious, blood-shot eyes, etc? What would the ambulance workers do the minute they got there? If... the boy's mom was not thinking well and would keep them from getting to him and tend to him herself, would they push her away, or give her at least a few seconds? How crucial is every moment in this situation? Thanks!!! I appreciate it and hope soon will have the final version ready - it's called A Flower's Stem.

  • Social norms q - can a married woman's old friend invite her & husband over?

My aunt claims that unless I'm married as well, I shouldn't bother my old college friend who moved in a few houses down from mine and parents' house... I thought it's ridiculous. I wasn't inviting her alone to a movie or dance club... just was gonna ask her and her husband to join me and parents for, say, Super Bowl or even a small bbq. Even if he does get jealous, what's the big deal? :(

  • How many years younger does a guy have to be from his gf to be considered "gerontophile"? :(?

    This was on Wiki:

Gerontophilia is the sexual preference for the elderly. The word gerontophilia derives from Greek: geron, meaning "old man or woman" and philie, meaning "love".[1] A person who has a sexual preference for the elderly is a gerontophile. Specialised terms are alphamegamia for the attraction to an older man and anililagnia for the attraction to an older woman.[citation needed]

My gf is 35, I'm 30. My friend called me a "gerontophile" and I didn't like it... Just curious what the general consensus is. Is 5 years a big deal?

I don't have enough will of power, and internet addiction takes over and I've been going to sleep at 6, 7am for weeks now, I think... I was told about Net Nanny, but that's $40... is there something free, or cheaper that would force my computer into shutdown, hopefully warming me first, when I tell it to? Thanks!
