  • What is this song? (1960's?)?

    Very strange song...

I heard it on the radio yesterday, couldn't make it its name!

All I can say is that from start to finish, it had a woman's voice in the foregroud / background going "ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha" for the whole song, and there was a "computered voice" kind of singing, but it was in fact leaving a message on an answerphone in the song.

From what I could make out, the presenter called it "I am superman" or im not superman, or i am superbad, or something that sounded similar.

I really want to find out what this song is!

From what I understood it reched number 18 in the charts in 1960 something...

    Please help!

  • I'm falling for a guy!?

Right basically it works like this,

There's a guy at my work who's been here for a while now, and I'm falling for him!

I never imagined I would, but he's such a sweet guy, and there's some completely mad chemistry going on! He says he's straight, but I'm sure he's at least bi, I can just feel it...

I've not tried to come on to him or anything because I repest the fact that he is supposedly straight.

However... He teases me a LOT... very playful with me only and not any others at work, whispering rather explicit things at me sometimes (to which I would answer YES but I'm usually stuck on the office phone when he does so!). He's come to help work on my car, and seemed rather intreagued by my naked men's calendar hanging up in the garage!

Thing is, I can't get him out of my mind, but I haven't said anything to him, other than messing about with the odd innuendo, but it's SO frustrating!

I am gay, he knows I am, as I told him at the beginning of him working there as it came up in convo.

What to do?! I dont want to freak him out by flooding all my emotions out on him, but at the same time I'd hate to let him slip through my fingers if something fantastic could come of our friendship!

I'm lost! Some friends told me "both get drunk and see if anything happens" but that would be very (can't think of the word!!) BAD! manipulative? whatever... i dont wanna do that!

    HELP!

    ...sorry for the essay!

  • How much road tax should I pay?

Basically I own a 2002 VW Polo 1.2, which emits 142G / KM of C02, so it's in a certain road tax group, so I pay the specific amount determined by the amount of CO2 it emits.

NOW... I'm taking that engine out and putting in a 2.8L VR6 out of a 1993 MK3 VW Golf VR6.

What do I do with regards the road fund license, as I can't determine the amount of C02 emitted by this new engine as it wasn't fitted to any car after 01/03/2001 when the taxation classes changed from engine size to emissions.

What do I do? Obviously I have to declare the engine size change on the V5!

    Thanks in advance.

  • Pug 306 Heater Blower.?

Hi everyone, I've read up stuff on here about the blower but things seem to be rather conflicting!

    RIGHT...

Ignition ON, engine running whatever, the heater blower fan does NOT work at all. Ive tried wiggling all the wires on the way to the blower, behind the switch etc, nothing, not even a blip on the fan motor, which to me reules out a connection problem.

Using a multimeter, I managed to get 12V at the live wire connector to the fan motor, there is good continuity between the earth wire on the heater blower and the body.

There is NO continuity from the + to the - pins on the blower. Surely this means that the fan motor's coil has broken inside and I need a new fan?

The thing that confuses me is that I can't get a live 12v feed in the radio wires, as that does not work.

Ive checked ALL fuses and theyre ALL fine! Confusing!

I put the multimeter into the fan switch and rotated the dash switch for the heater, and voltage went up / down in the middle pin of the switch, and constant 12V from the red wire.

I've worked out its a faulty blower motor... You agree?

    Ta for your help!!!!

  • Rover 25 Clutch Replacement?

    Hi there,

I've got a 1400 Rover 25 of 1999, and need to replace the clutch. Is this an easy job? Anyone done it before? I have done a clutch on my 2002 Polo 1200 and that was easy enough! I've heard you don't even need to remove the driveshafts on these to do the clutch?

    Your help is much appreciated!

Even if someone has a link to a guide to tell me how to to change the clutch or something, that would be brill!

    Thanks very much!

  • Is my computer computer broken?

    Hi there,

I have a N600C Compaq laptop and connected the + and - of the laptop charger into the laptop the wrong way round (the wire snapped, and I reconnected it the wrong way round - I'm such an idiot!!!)

Now with the charger connected the laptop will not switch on and the battery charging (orange) light will not come on... abolutely no activity, and I know for a fact the battery is completely flat so it won't switch on normally, but even if the charger's plugged in, no activity!

    Any ideas please?

I didnt plug it in like that for ages, it was literally maybe 2 seconds?

    Thanks!!!!!!

  • Is there any point of an intercooler on a non-turbo engine?

Hi everyone, I know a fair amount about why to use intercoolers, what turbos do etc etc, BUT does anyone have any idead whether or not it would be worthwhile fitting an intercooler to a non-turbo petrol engine?

Has this been done before? It's not for looks or anything, I genuinely wander if it would slightly increase performance or whether it would restrict it? I'd make a system to get the air rammed into the air filter on the car.

Thanks for your opinions / expertise!

  • Someone almost drove into me but I hit kerb as a consequence and damaged a wheel... What do I do?!?

    Hi everyone,

This morning a woman pulled into my line of traffic without signalling or checking her mirrors, I had my lights on so she cant have missed me if she was looking..

She pulled into my lane, and literally inches from hitting me, I swerved to avoid her, hit a kerb and damaged my alloy wheel. She then drove off without even stopping to check if everything was OK. I checked and yes I have a massive dent in my alloy wheel. I proceeded to drive after her to get details etc, eventually she stopped, and tried to tell me it was old and she didn't do it. It was most certainly fresh, as I felt the bloody bang on the kerb!!! There was lots of alloy dust round the impact area.

I got her details, she has mine, photos were taken etc...

She has said she doesn't want to go thru any other means than the insurance, he said clearly, "I'll have to go through the insurance then"... Will that affect my insurance? It was totally her fault and I reacted to avoid any collision between vehicles.

What do you guys think? I personally would like to just get a cash settlement and I'll get that one wheel fixed at my local wheel refurb centre.

What do you think I should do?

    Thanks :)

  • 2002 vw polo gearbox side plate?

Hi there, I have a 2002 Vw Polo 1.2, and on the end of the gearbox (just behind the wheel arch liner) there is a black cover plate on the end of the gearbox. Is this simply a cover? Whilst doing the clutch the jack slipped and put a huge bend in the plate, and I got all gearbox oil come drain out onto the drive :(

I need to replace this plate, but does anyone know if it hols anything, or if I can just take it off? I don't want gears and bearings falling out all over the place!

    Thanks

  • 2002 VW Polo Clutch renewal - easy or hard?

    Hi there,

I have a 1.2, 2002, 3 cylinder polo and the clutch is gone. Well, almost! It's got 90,000 miles on the clock, it started juddering maye 10,000 miles ago, then last night, lost my temper, went out in the car and erm.. My clutch didn't take too kindly to my driving!

Now it just has no bite left, when changing up gears the clutch slips, and going into 5th I cant accelerate when going into gear as the revs will go up (without speed increase!)...

What I need to know is, are there any areas I should watch out for when changing this clutch? Any special tools I'll need halfway through stripping the box or something? I only really have basic tools, and ahve done the clutch on a MK2 golf 1600 before, but this is a bit new to me!

What do you reckon guys? Easy job or a bit specialist on this one?

Thanks in advance for the advice! :) xx

  • 02 / lambda sensor. How to test them?

Hi there, I have a classic mini and have fitted an 02 sensor to it, its 3 wire, 1 signal and 2 heater wires, so its heated, and also got a air / fuel ratio gauge. It doesnt have any ECU or anything like that, I just fitted the sensor to see what the mixture's doing.

Problem is, everything's wired up, and the gauge just stays on maximum RICH all the time. I'm asuming the sensor is at fault, even though it is brand new!!!

Other than the propane blowtorch / multimeter way of testing it, is there any other way?

Also, if there is no other way, how do you do the propane torch test? I know you put the + of multimeter onto the signal wire, and - to the body of the sensor. Then you heat the tip of sensor, but from then how can you tell if it's dead or not? If the voltage jumps all over the place or if if it stays around 450mA?

    Thanks!!!!

  • Lawnmower cuts out?

Basically I have an old Super 11 SL tracotr lownmower, with a 4 stroke briggs 11hp 399cc single cylinder engine.just changed spark plug and head gasket, cylinder bore is perfect, not scored etc..

after 15 mins use it just starts backfiring and eventually cuts out... then its completely impossible to start...no matter if fuel on / off, revs low / high / choke on / off..... etc....

no, its not flooded i know quite a bit about engines....

However, it makes some quite loud backfires (poss thru carb?!) when trying to get it running again... actully have to let it rest for 15 mins, at which point it will start, but not without a bit of a fight! It has done this for ages, but now I need it to work properly and its getting on my ****!

Fresh petrol etc.. I'm assuming it's overheating, but ive made sure the mixture isnt too weak (which could provoke overheating), the filter is clean, etc etc.. the oil is a tad high though, but that would cool it done more, surely?

    Anyone have any ideas?

    Thanks!!

  • (Auto?) ELECTRICIANS AGAIN!-?

Basically, I have a custom mini with a flipfront with two starter motors to release the flipfront.

The starters have a solenoid each. This solenoid needs to to activated by a low ampage 12V supply. I have one wire going from live to a switch, then technically two wires (one wire going into two) out of the switch, going to the starter solenoid.

When making the contact, one starter is activated (always the same one!) and the other hardly does anything.

The one not doing anything is the closest to the switch (about 40cm from switch instead of about 120cm (the switch that works)!!!!

Can anyone help? Im stuck now :( Need to get this mini done ready for Southern Mini Days show @ Paddock Wood!!!

Thanks very much for your help :)

  • ELECTRICIANS--where can I get a 12V 265A relay?to be fitted between battery and starter motor on a custom car!

Basically Ive fitted a custom flipfront to my mini, being released by TWO starter motors off a car, and need a relay to be able to switch these starters on. I need a relay, because all I want on the dash is a small toggle switch to put the start motors into action. On the battery I have "265A per hour" or something like that...

I did try it with a 30A relay, but this went BZZZZZZZ POP lol... and went up in smoke :S

Are the relays available? Where can I find one? Need to know ASAP!! Thanks very much!!!
