  • Why do people think they are rational? What is the reason for this belief?

After all, people do some of the most important things in life because of desire:- love making, buying, choosing etc...

If there was such a thing as the rational, why do we disagree so much?

You may believe that some people are not rational but...

My question also requires that reason itself be justified, but by what method?

  • Would you agree that the Epiphany celebrates a momentous change in your view of God?

"This mystery that has now been revealed through the Spirit to his holy apostles and prophets was unknown to any men in past generations; it means that pagans now share the same inheritance, that they are parts of the same body, and that the same promise has been made to them, in Christ Jesus, through the gospel."

from St. Paul's letter to the Ephesians chpt 3: 2-3, 5-6.

  • Was this a miracle or just something that happens every day?

On 2nd July 1911 Three men of true grit -

Apsley Cherry-Garrard, Lieutenant 'Birdie' Bowers, and Dr. Wilson, set out for Cape Crozier,

during the Antarctic winter. Temperature -65F.

Their way led them to the dark side of Mount Erebus and Mount Terror. Earlier they decided to extinguish their candle lights to save fuel.

But clouds covered the moonlight all that day, they were lost in darkness. Running down a hill the sledges were clipping thier heels when

"quit suddenly a little patch of clear sky drifted... and showed us 3 paces ahead a great crevasse with just a shining icy lid not much thicker than glass. We should have walked into it and the sledge would certainly have followed us down.

After that I felt we had a chance of pulling through... ..."

writes Apsley Cherry-Gerrard in his measured and detailed account.

  • Do You Believe That Nothing Can Travel Faster Than Light?

This has been the cornerstone of physics since 1905 when Albert Einstein published a theory of Special Relativity. But see the latest results:

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-1579...

The team behind the finding in September, that neutrinos may travel faster than light, has carried out an improved version of their experiment - and found the same result.

No you see - it is only possible to prove a theory to be false.

You may never prove it to be absolutely true.

  • Should Captain Oats Have Taken Snow Shoes For the Ponies?

Captain Scott's Diary - First Depot Journey -

Tuesday January 31st 1911: "We have everything ready to start - but this afternoon we tried our one pair of snow-shoes on 'Wear Willy'. The effect was magical. He strolled around as though walking on bare ground in places where he floundered woefully without them. Oates hasn't any faith in these shoes at all, and I thought that even the quietest poney would need to be practised in their use."

Why did they not take more snow shoes on this first journey? Was this requirement overwhelmed by the banter between Captain Oates - a cavalry officer of the Inneskillen Dragoon Guards, and the majority of Royal Navy officers on the expedition? Scott was nearly the only member of the team with previous experience of Antartic conditions.
