  • Did Satan Design My Microwave?

My microwave has a "Beverage" button, supposedly designed to heat a cold or room-temperature beverage to a temperature at which it can be enjoyed warm. The problem is, if I press the "Beverage" button, the beverage is hot enough to scald the inside of my mouth when the microwave says it's ready. This is a dirty trick, and an outright lie! Since Satan is the "Father of Lies" is it right for me to assume that Satan designed my microwave? If so, am I going to Hell for buying it and supporting his cause?

  • Why Do Christians Carry Insurance?

Jesus said, "Let the dead bury their own dead" (Luke 9:60) and "do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself" (Matthew 6:34). Why then do Christians plan ahead for the eventuality of their death by purchasing insurance?

Will God not care for their offspring when He takes them home? Doesn't the purchase of life insurance denote - at least to some degree - a lack of faith?

If God cannot care for your offspring after your death, then why not? Why does He have limits if He's omnipotent? Don't you trust Him?

  • Is Shock and Awe a Good Reason to Attend Church?

The church marquee at the end of my street says, "Shock Your Mom: Go to Church!"

Is that to what it's come down? When you run out of good reasons to attend church, you can always fall back on the "surprise your parents" card? What does that mean? Isn't it belittling God, even if just a little bit?

  • Larger rear wheels on a 2008 Mustang?

What do you gain/lose by putting larger rear wheels than the fronts on a Mustang? If I'm guessing, I'd say it throws off the speedometer/odometer, lessens fuel economy, and makes more rotating mass on acceleration?

Something like this would be cosmetic more than performance, right?

My 2008 Mustang currently has 18" wheels.

  • Spiritually speaking, has Will Smith been demon-possessed?

Will Smith is producing a remake of the 1984 film, "Karate Kid" (one of the greatest 80s movies ever), starring his son, Jaden. Given that "Karate Kid" was such a stand-alone success and endures as a lasting favorite to this day, do you believe that Will Smith has either sold his soul to the devil (only a deal of this sort could keep a remake from tanking) or been demon-possessed and is being forced to make a horrible business decision against his will?

On a side note: Why can't Hollywood come up with any original ideas? Are we really at the point where we're resorting to remakes of remakes of remakes?

  • What is the point of faith?

It's been said that if God revealed himself to the world, then there would be no point in faith. Is that a bad thing?

If I want somebody to know something, I'll tell or show it to them. I try very hard not to use the "because I said so" or "you just have to trust me" routines. It works much better that way, because that's the way the human brain operates. To truly understand something, you have to involve one or more of your senses. Faith is completely independent of your senses.

So, what's the big deal? Why is faith a necessary mechanism? What is the point of faith?

  • Would you have died of Polio by now if doctors' only tool were prayer?

It's amazing to me that some deeply religious people scoff at science and claim that many of our technological advances are of the devil, yet they have no problem taking pain medication or undergoing invasive treatment for illness or injury. Many times they'll couple it with prayer and give all of the credit to their god while ignoring the obvious indication of a scientific treatment or cure. Yet I really don't hear about people with serious illnesses having startling breakthroughs when they shun medicine and only pray to be cured.

Medicine has evolved through many means that most religious people would consider unethical or immoral, yet they're perfectly fine with it when they are the benefactors. The furor over stem cell research is one case in point. Yet if the fruits of this labor were a cure for cancer or the regeneration of amputated body parts I'm sure they'd jump right on the chance to use it.

So, if we had it their way and the only tool doctors had at their disposal was prayer, do religious people think they would have survived as long as they have?

  • How to wire trailer lights on a 2008 Mustang?

I've got a 2008 Mustang V6 (5-speed manual) on which I just installed a Draw-Tite sport hitch. I've got a four-wire flat wiring harness for the lights but it didn't come with instructions. I'm no good at reading wiring diagrams, so I'm wondering which wires to connect to which wires.

The harness wires are, in order, White (exposed pin on the trailer plug), Brown, Yellow, Green. Am I correct in assuming the white wire is the ground? Are the yellow and green the left and right turn signals and the brown brakes?

I have a multimeter to figure out which wires on the Mustang are brake and turn signal, I just need to figure out which is which on the trailer harness.

On a Mustang forum someone suggested that the taillights on a Mustang don't have enough voltage to run a trailer, is this true?

BTW, that Draw-Tite sport hitch looks great on the Mustang - small and discrete.

  • Why would someone equate evolution with magic?

A question was asked about flying monkeys. An answer was given to "jump off a building and try to evolve wings REALLY hard." Is anybody actually this ignorant of the process of evolution or was that intended to be a joke?

What if I told a Christian to "jump off a building and pray to grow wings REALLY hard?" Would that be any more or less ridiculous?

does that mean my problems are too big for God? If he really wanted me to see, hear, and/or know him wouldn't he be able to break through these flimsy barriers in my puny mortal brain? Isn't he supposed to be all-powerful?

  • Best inexpensive mod for Mustang V6?

I've got a 2008 Pony Package Mustang V6 that I just love to death. The fuel economy is great and it's fun to drive. I'm considering a small upgrade and cannot decide which way to go.

Engine: While the engine has plenty of power, I'd like to pep it up just a little bit. If I went this way, it seems a CAI is where it's at. I'm looking at BBK. Any suggestions?

I've also seen where people put a 70mm throttle body and spacer on with good results. What does this do to fuel economy?

Suspension: I've noticed that the car hops in turns if you hit a bump. Is there an inexpensive suspension mod that will help with this?

    What can you recommend?

  • So, God is a good parent?

There is an overwhelming school of thought among believers that God is loving and just and proves it by punishing us. Here's the argument:

"If you had/have children and they disobey you or do something that will harm them you'll punish them too, because you love them and want what's best for them."

OK, no problem there. When my kids act up, I definitely discipline them to make sure they realize the consequences of their actions. Yes, that's what a good parent does.

A good parent does NOT, however, kill his/her child, burn them in eternal fire, disown them, or punish them for something their great great grandparents did. Yet Christians are perfectly fine with this concept.

"Adam and Even disobeyed God and fell short of his glory. That is why all humans must seek his forgiveness even though we'll never be worthy of his unending mercy."

Really? So, we don't deserve to be forgiven for something we didn't do because God loves us so much that he'll send us to hell for eternity? Be honest and tell me: does that sound like a good parent to you?
