  • Rafter size for car port?

I'm building a car port. I have 2 aluminum 8" i-beams on the ends (one is 8' above the ground, the other is 7' above the ground to allow for run-off).

The beams are bolted to pressure treated 6x6 posts burried 2.5' in the ground, and set in concrete.

How big of a rafter do I need to run across for a simple pitch roof?

My roofing material will be the coorogated polycarbonate from home depot (26"x8' sheets).

Accounting for NY snow, how big do my rafters have to be?

The span between the ibeams is 13'.

This is a free standing structure.

    Thanks.

  • How to build a 10x10 concrete slab?

I'm building a 10x10 slab for my hot tub. I read that I need a control joint every 8'. Since my slab is only 10 square, can I skip the control joint? Or should I put one at the middle in each direction? Quartering the slab?

  • How to build a hot tub deck?

I'm building a 12'x14' deck to put my new hot tub on. The deck must be low to the ground. I can't put beams under the deck joists. This is not an option, deck finished height will be about 1+' from the ground level. Hot tub measures 80" square. How many joists, what size, spacing, and how many posts do I need to ensure the heavy tub wont settle the deck?

I'm thinking 2x12 joists, 16" on-center, with 11 4x4 posts around the perimeter, and 4, 4x4 posts in the center.

Not sure about sonotubes, or just putting posts in the ground with cement.

Any experienced builders please feel free to destroy my plans and point out my lack of knowledge, AS LONG AS, you've got some constructive criticism to go along with it!

    Thanks!

  • Using plastic conduit?

I'm installing 220, 50 amp wire trough grey plastid conduit. The guy at home Depot told me I have to remove the black plastic outside coating of the 6/2(or is it 3) before putting it in the conduit. He said the plastic conduit, and the plastic wire covering will have a corrosive reaction. Is this true?

  • Cell color in Excel, conditional formatting?

How do I change the cell color in excel? Not so fast, I know the easy way. If A2=Joan Smith, and B2 has a "P" for paid, I want to make A2 cell color turn green. I am already using conditional formatting to change B2 to green as soon as I enter a "P" for paid. How do I get A2 to match B2? And should I toss in an R2D2 as well? jk.

  • Car alternator questions.?

Is the alternator constantly providing a charge for the battery as long as the engine is running? For instance, if I drove my car on a road trip for 24 hours straight, will the alternator charge the battery at 14 volts for the entire trip, or does it shut off its charging at a certain point? And If I put a charger on my 12volt battery for 2 days charging at 14volts, will it get the same charge as leaving it on the battery at 14volts for 2 weeks? Or will the battery get overcharged?

  • Car battery charging with Solar Panel?

I hooked up a 102 watt solar panel to a 20A charge controller. I hooked it to my 12v lawn mower battery. The battery alone registered 12.3 volts. When hooked to the solar panel controller, it measured 14.2 volts across the terminals. Is that voltage too high for charging? Will I fry the battery? Thanks.

  • Computer keeps restarting by itself?

    I have a Compaq Presario 2.7 ghz.

It would always restart itself, and sometimes wouldn't power up. It would start to power up, then the fan would shut off, and it would try to restart again. Now I put in a new power supply unit from best buy (it is the proper psu), and it worked fine, until today. Now it keeps restarting itself again! What else could be wrong? Thanks.
