Is it honest to quote Eph 2:8-9, but leave out v 10?
:8 For by grace you have been saved through faith [active faith-without works faith is dead] and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, :9 not of yourselves, lest anyone should boast. :10 FOR WE ARE HIS WORKMANSHIP, CREATED IN CHRIST JESUS FOR GOOD WORKS WHICH GOD PREPARED BEFOREHAND THAT WE SHOULD WALK IN THEM.
<PP> If someone gave you a car- free and clear- (Salvation by Grace)- would that car get you anywhere without fuel [works]? Would you claim that the car wasn't free because you needed gas to get to where you want to go? If someone gave you a car, but left the keys on the table for you so that you could drive it, would you feel that by picking them up this meant that the gift were conditional- that there were "strings attached"?
We cannot boast about salvation because as necessary as our works might be to attain it, our sins are not covered by them. Grace involves the forgiveness of sins and is a (free) gift; but works are a sign of active faith and so are necessary as well, even though they cannot absolve us of sin. Again, our good works do not wipe out the sins we commit. but they are still necessary to attain salvation. A car can get us somewhere, but we still need to fuel it.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoHow did Jesus ascend to Heaven in the flesh when Paul says flesh and blood cannot inherit the Kingdom of God?
The actual answer is that flesh and BLOOD cannot; flesh and bone can! After Jesus' resurrection, when He appeared to the Apostles, Jesus had Thomas thrust his hand into His side to prove that He had a physical (but now immortal) body of flesh and bone (as He stated He had).; blood is a condition of mortality- blood gives mortal life; immortal bodies are animated by the Light of Christ which gives immortal life.
