I don't have an incubator but am growing bacteria in Petri Dishes for a science prject. How do you prepare the dishes (including the agar) and how do you store them?

It can't be so specific as to the Bhutan bombing a few days ago, but can't be so broad as tension between Iraqi Shiites and Sunnis. It doesn't have to be in the Middle East either. Have you ever heard that a dog's mouth is cleaner than a humans? Well for my middle school science fair project I am going to compare dog and human saliva in petri dishes to see on which more bacteria grows. I have two questions about it... first of all what size petri dish should I use from Carolina Biological Supply? Second, what do i use to swab the mouths and put it on the petri dish... a Q-Tip? Please answer soon! I have to order the stuff tomorrow to get them in tie for the material deadline.

Is my hams just fat or pregnant? She is a Robovorski and we got her and her "sister" 3 weeks ago. Now, one of them seems really fat BUT ONLY ON THE UPPER HALF OF HER BODY. Is this a sign of pregnancy? Also, if she is pregant do I have to remove the male from the cage?

I have two female Roborvoski hamsters who have lived together at the pet shop and in their new cage, no fighting! They are relatively new, but I was thinking about breeding them in a couple of months. My friend also has a male Robo that is 3 months old. They are all very healthy. If I bred one of my girls and she had babies in her cage, what would the other one do? Would I have to separate the sis's?

I just bought 2 female Roborvoski hamsters from Petco 2 days ago. They are very active and love to burrow. The thing is, I haven't noticed any of their food being eaten! It is a commercial mix with seeds and pellets. I don't see the level of food changing. Also, it won't eat its veggies! They have one of those drip bottles, and the water level hasn't changed for the 2 days either. They drank out of the same bottle at the store! Please only home remedies! I don't want to taake a little hamster to the vet and pay $400 dollars!

Here is my story, I had 4 firebelly toads. I left out a large jar of water on the counter because i heard that helps remove some of the chemicals. What i didn't know is that my houskeeper pu bleach in the jar because she thought it was to be cleaned! I poured the water in the tank and a day later, the frogs were all blue, white and gray. They died about an hour later! We figured out there was bleach in it because the rest of teh water in the jard later spilled on my shirt, and my shirt changed colors. So sad. =( Don't think I'm a bad person it was a total accident. Since then I got 2 new firebelly toadswho have lived for 4 years. I was thinking about getting a garter snake, but first I need to know the answers to a few questions. First, would a 10 gallon tank be large enough? Second, should I feed the snake in a different tank from its main home? And finally, if I fed it frozen pinkie mice, should I just set them in the tank when they are heated, or wave them a couple inches in front of the snake using tongs?

I have to Fire-Bellied Toads, one is normal colored, green on top and orange/black on bottom. But the other one is solid black on top, and normal colored underside. They were both green when we bought them, 2 years ago. Is it a disease?
