Hurricane Irene has been confirmed to be responsible for 21 deaths in the United States. But all the attention seemed to be focused on its effect in NYC and there were quite a few people having "Hurricane Irene" parties or saying it wasn't so bad, or going outside even though authorities warned them not to. 21 of your fellow American citizens died!

My child is going to college and I want to let her explore life's possibilities and make her own mistakes in her college career so she can learn from them and the lesson will be more powerful than me just telling her. However, how do you balance that and the parental urge to protect your child from harm? I trust my child, it's the other kids I don't trust!
