I am a physics undergraduate concentrating on theoretical physics. My main interests are astrophysics and cosmology. I am also fascinated by chaos. I love science, science writing and science fiction. I am a fan of Gould, Greene, and Sagan. I also love philosophy. I am a fan of Nietzsche and Russell (ironic that I am fan of both, isn't it?). I am also a fan of Sartre and Wittgenstein. I so enjoy reading the works of J.K. Rowling, Douglas Adams, Neil Gaiman, and Urusula K. Le Guin. Most importantly, I love my Rose Anne so much!
Who is the best Nietzsche translator you know of?
I wish to buy my friend a Nietzsche book as a gift.
So far, I think Marianne Cowan's poetry is superior to that of Kaufmann, but Kaufmann seems to be the more renowned of the two. (I don't trust my judgment though, because I'm just basing it from two books, one from each scholar.)
To the philosophy aficionados out there, which Nietzsche translator and scholar do you like best?
Thanks! (I think I'm going for ' Beyond Good and Evil'.)
4 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoEvolutionists, do you agree that this is the best way to approach a creationist?
Here's the approach: let them explain the theory of evolution. If they got it wrong (as they almost certainly will), then there is no reason to debate. You just tell them that they can't claim a theory to be wrong and in fact not understand it.
Science lovers; agree or disagree?
As for me, I have not yet met a single creationist who truly understands evolution. And my method works well. They get stumped. All that they know about evolution are rhetoric like "survival of the fittest" or so and so.
13 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoA critique of logical positivism?
Hi everyone. I have just finished 'Language Truth and Logic' by AJ Ayer, English translations of Carnap's papers and articles on the theory of language by L Wittgenstein.
At present, I think the logical positivists are the coolest dudes in philosophy. Can anyone give me the title of a good book or article criticizing logical positivism? If possible, I hope the critique would also be analytical (I know metaphysics can be cool sometimes, but admit it metaphysicians, your field is a murky pond of ideas, albeit an interesting one). Speaking of metaphysics, if you know of a book containing a good defense of contemporary metaphysics, then the ten points would probably go to you.
Kindly exclude Popperian theses, I am already familiar with them.
Thank you very much. By the way, any logical positivists around town?
3 AnswersPhilosophy1 decade agoDune or Foundation?
In our school, there is a book sale where the complete series of Frank Herbert's Dune and Isaac Asimov's Foundation are being sold at delicious prices. I don't have enough money and time (presently) to have both series. Which would you suggest I try first? Thanks for your opinions.
This is my sci-fi background: I am a fan of Douglas Adams (both Hitchhikers' and Dirk Gently's series) and Ursula K. Le Guin (especially the Hainish Cycle series), and of Ray Bradbury and Spider Robinson. I've read mostly short science fiction, especially those written by scientists. I also like Madeleine L'Engle's works. All I have read of Isaac Asimov are his non-fiction works (or those in between fiction and non-fiction) and I haven't read any Frank Herbert. I like Heinlein's prose and ideas, but I sometimes find him too didactic.

3 AnswersAstronomy & Space1 decade agoWhich post-Darwin or post-Crick creationist has the greatest credentials?
To surf on the wave of creationist and ID questions; Who is the creationist with the greatest and biggest name in science who has lived after the time of Darwin and the discovery of the DNA? I'd gladly appreciate sources.
2 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoScientist, what do you think should be done regarding the crisis of creationism?
Scientists and scholars, especially those who are religious, what do you think should be done to address the crisis of the attack on the theory of evolution by religious fundamentalists and creationsist pseudoscientists?
I understand those who would answer "education", but I have tried that and have noticed that most creationists lack precursury education inorder be properly argued against regarding evolution. Most people lack the knowledge to understand even just basic genetics and biogeography, and so creationist find it easy to pursue popaganda since they have with them "common sense".

1 AnswerHomework Help1 decade agoMuslims, do you actually think that a child born in the jungles and raised by leopards (Mowgli) is a Muslim?
And will she pray facing Mecca and become a very good person because she was not polluted by the religions and ways of non-Muslims? (And will she wear a burka?)
6 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWhat may a little bleeding and some blood clot from the vagina mean if someone is surely not having mens?
I know it is best that we see a doctor fo this one, and we will, but I am still hoping for some decent online opinions here.
My girlfriend is having trouble sleeping, and maybe this is what causes her dizzyness and head-aches during the day. She's a long way from me, so I just told her to take ferrosulfate. She hasn't yet. But asides from this, blood is coming our of her vagina ten days after the last day of her menstruation. The blood volume is too small to be a menstrual flow and too great to be from bleeding. And some peanut-sized blood clots come out of her canal. She's irregular. And I mean really irregular; the space between menstruations is sometimes six months, and sometimes 28 days. For the past five months, though, she's been having it monthly. What may be responsible for the bleeding? (She's abstained for almost a month now.) Can this still be a residue from her last menstruation?
Thank you very much, online doctors.
2 AnswersWomen's Health1 decade agoDoes one put Naturalism in the blank that says 'Religion'?
If no, what should one say? Simply 'None'? What defines religion (Christianity, Hinduism, Hellenicism) from those that are simply philosophies (Confucianism, Taoism) and belief systems (Objectivism, Marxism, Romansticism)?
