A question for the Ron Paul acolytes?
Rep. Paul has admitted that he collects Social Security, despite repeatedly stating that Social Security is unconstitutional, despite continuing to receive his full salary as a member of the US House of Representatives ($174,000 per year) and being independently wealthy (between $1.94 million and $5.23 million excluding real estate.)
So, how do justify this? I thought Rep Paul was the guy for fiscal prudence and cutting expenses? Yet he is taking a check that he had to register for and increasing the drain on the SS Trust Fund. Is Ron Paul a gross hypocrite? Is he a liar? Or are the Paulists just going to try to spin this revelation against somebody else.
Bonus question! How many horrifically spelled death threats will be in my inbox by this time tomorrow?
9 AnswersElections9 years agoSo Ron Paul cult members?
Rep. Paul has just announced that he will no longer campaign for the Republican nomination. Now will you lot finally admit that the man has no support outside the cult, and has zero chance of being elected?
Or will you continue with the lunatic conspiracy theories and denials of reality?
7 AnswersElections9 years agoA Question for Ron Paul Supporters?
I was hoping that y'all could give me a little background on his achievements as a Congressman. What major legislation has he authored that was signed into law? What major committees has he been appointed to, and what committees has he chaired, things like that.
No agenda, just want to see what the man has done in office.
5 AnswersOther - Politics & Government9 years agoAre conservatives cowards?
Earlier today, user "ByeBye Barry" asked a question asking if President Obama's lower poll numbers were the reason he wasn't attending 9/11 commemoration events. I answered, with a link to the White House site's official Presidential daily scheduled, that showed Obama was attending memorials in New York City, Shanksville, Pa, and at the Pentagon along with attending a memorial concert tonight.
"ByeBye Barry" immediately blocked me. Is this user just another conservative afraid of facts? Is his world view threatened by reality? Why would you block someone for giving a factual answer, except for a refusal to admit that you are wrong?
Here's the link, by the way: http://www.whitehouse.gov/schedule/president
I'm really curious why conservatives are so afraid of the President. Why did you block me, "ByeBye Barry", and why do you hide your activity?
7 AnswersOther - Politics & Government10 years agoDid you listen to Obama's speech?
In it, he said this:
"So I'm asking you all to make your voice heard. If you want a balanced approach to reducing the deficit, let your Member of Congress know. If you believe we can solve this problem through compromise, send that message."
Within the hour, the House email servers crashed from the load.
Think the Republicans will get the message?
8 AnswersOther - Politics & Government10 years agoWhat is this spider eating?
There is a small spider living in our bathroom; built a web in the corner where the tub meets the wall. I like spiders, and haven't disturbed him.
But I have to wonder what this little beastie is eating. Due to my health issues, we keep the doors and windows closed, so no flying insects. I haven't seen anything in the web. He's been there several weeks, still active if disturbed.
My wife thinks it might be living of the dead flakes of skin dropped when we dry off after a shower. Is that possible? Or can spiders just go a very long time without food?
Seriously, I'm about to order him some Chinese.

What are the major world religions views on whether I should drink it now or wait for dinner? (Gordon Biersch Marzen, if that makes a difference.)
5 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoPapers, please? Arizona ID check law question?
For anyone who thinks the new Arizona law requiring people to submit to random checks of the legal residency is a good thing, could you do it?
Could you, right now with what you have on you or within easy reach prove that you are legally allowed to reside in the United States? Driver's Licenses and other state ID don't count, since they are issued to aliens and commonly forged. If the police asked for your papers right now, could you prove you belong here? If not would you calmly accept being arrested and held as a suspected illegal alien until someone found your birth certificate and got you out?
For the record, sitting within arms reach of me here at my computer desk is my US Passport. Issued only to citizens, and has my picture and identifying information.
So, readers of Y!A... your papers, please?
8 AnswersOther - Politics & Government1 decade agoA question for Christians?
I've seen many of you make the claim that Christianity isn't a religion, but a relationship. If you truly believe this, are you willing to accept that your relationship does not deserve the legal protections given to religious faiths and organizations by the government? For example, there is a religious exemption to property taxes. If you aren't a religion, should all your churches pay their fair share?
Federal discrimination laws mention religion, but not "relationships." So, by your standards, it would be fine to discriminate openly against Christians? Fire them, refuse them housing, build separate restrooms? You'd have no legal objection to this?
Do you go into bookstores and demand the Bibles be moved from the "Religion" to the "Relationships" section?
Just curious to see if any of you have thought out the actual implications of claiming that your faith isn't really a religion.
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoWere the conservatives here aware of this?
Scott Brown never used the word Republican in his campaign ads or fliers. It wasn't on his lawn signs, or the bumper stickers. What does that say to you?
21 AnswersElections1 decade agoA question on today's near coup in Parliament?
I'd like to hear what our British friends think about the bungled (and very public) in-fighting and attempt to topple Gordon Brown today. Just watching the story on BBC America. Seems that Mr. Hoon failed to secure a base before moving.
What do y'all think in the Green and Pleasant Land?
4 AnswersCurrent Events1 decade agoDo any of you know what "sedition" is?
There have been numerous questions and answers that seem to advocate overthrowing the elected government of the United States. I'm wondering if any of the right-wingers (the group that claims to be all for law and order) know what is contained in U.S. Code Title 18, Part I, Chapter 115 § 2385
Also, how many of you think you could last twenty years in a Federal prison?
7 AnswersElections1 decade agoThe Other People? (For Christians)?
Genesis 17 has God establishing a covenant with Abraham and all his descendants. God specifically states this several times, that the deal is with the sons of Abraham only. The New Testament also makes it clear that Jesus is both a fulfillment and continuation of that covenant.
So what about the rest of us? At the time of Abraham, my ancestors were running around Northern Europe bashing each other with stone axes. I, and most humans, are not sons of Abraham.
So why do Christians assume that their rules apply to everyone?
8 AnswersReligion & Spirituality1 decade agoDo you believe that marriages involving infertile people are valid?
A lot of the negative commentary on gay marriages centers around the inability of same-sex couples to produce offspring. Well, I'm sterile due to cancer and have been married for 17 years. So, Christians, is my marriage valid? If so, why not other marriages that cannot produce children? If not, why aren't you complaining about the thousands of marriages that can never produce children entered into every month?
