  • Canon EOS 400D + Jessops 460AFDC won't fire flash unit, please help!?

I know that the flash unit works as I've borrowed it from a friend, and it works on his 450D, and it works on slave with my camera if I fire my built in flash.

I feel like I'm making a fatal error - he told me to simply attach to the hot-shoe, put the camera into manual, put the flash unit into automatic and it should fire when I take a photo. While I'm testing in a well lit situation, and I will actually be shooting in a low lit situation, I would like to know that it does work before I go out to shoot.

Could someone please save me from my own stupidity and tell me exactly what amateur error I've made!

  • PC external hard drive plugged into Mac, needs reformatting - how to save contents please?

Basically, I use my WD Elements 500GB portable hard drive in a PC, but I plugged it into a Mac today, having been told that it would be fine, and alas - it isn't.

When I plugged it back into my PC and tried to use it in Windows Explorer, I got a message "This drive must be formatted before you can use it."

Is there any way I can save the contents of this drive before I format it, or have I lost everything?

    Please help!

    Thank you very much.

  • Help with some Chemistry AS Level work please? To do with ionic equations, spectator ions and state symbols?

We did a practical today, I've written the question below, and the following written questions, with my answers.

Add 0.5g of zinc powder to 3cm(cubed) of 2 mol dm-3 hydrochloric acid and warm gently.

Try to identify the gas produced.

    1. Describe your observations.

The liquid hydrochloric acid started to bubble as the zinc powder dissolved.

    2. What are the products of the reaction?

    Zinc chloride and hydrogen

    3. Write a balanced equation for the reaction including state symbols.

    Zn(s)+HCl(aq) >> ZnCl(aq)+H(g)

    4. Rewrite the equation showing ions in the acid and in the metal compound produced.

    Zn(s)+ H(positive charge 1)Cl(negative charge 1)(aq) >> Zn(positive charge 1)Cl(negative charge 1)(aq)+H(g)

    5. Cancel any spectator ions to obtain a simpler ionic equation.

I don't know if question 4 is right, and if it is, then I need some help with question 5 please, as I can't see any spectator ions.

    Thankyou very much :)

  • Are you allowed a car provisional license and a motorbike one, at the same time?

My boyfriend's mum bought him a car provisional license for his birthday, and I'm getting him a motorbike one.

Is he allowed both? Or do I have to wait until he's passed his car one before he can have a motorbike one? What's the rules please?

    Thank you :)

  • What does 'TFT' stand for in photography? Time for something?

As a young photographer, I'm looking for models for my A Levels, but don't have stacks of money, so I'm hoping for models who are willing to work for prints of my photos.

Came across 'TFT' and was wondering what it meant please, and also if there's another abbreviation for what I want that I can look for.

    Thankyou :)

  • Contraceptive patch - new to me this week - twitchy arm, is this something to worry about please?

I started the Evra transdermal patch (prescribed by my doctor) on Tuesday, it's now Thursday.

I've followed all of the rules in all the booklets and leaflets I was given by the doctor, and everything she said to me.

I've never used the pill or any other form of contraception other than the condom before.

I have a quite bad twitching in my arm, that I've noticed only over the past couple of hours, but would like to know if it's anything to worry about. I have no other side affects listed, such as a rash. If someone could help please? I don't want to book a doctors appointment and waste half an hour if it's nothing to worry about. I'm happy to answer any questions about this if you need to know to give me a better answer.

Obviously I know that my best bet would be to go to the doctor because it depends on the person, but I'd like a rough guideline.

  • (2/1 8/4 . @)-8/1 a question for Muse?

    Muse.

It's obviously not a possibly equation, but see if you can work it out.

2nd song on the first album is Muscle Museum, 8th song on the fourth album is Exopolitics, 8th song on the first album is Uno. I don't know if that's relevant at all.

They've confirmed it's @muse.mu but I don't know if that was in the equation or not.

    Here's the email anyway:

MARLAY PARK & V FESTIVAL: BE A VIP

Muse play Marlay Park and the V Festival next week and as these will be their last shows in the UK and Ireland for a little while, we thought we'd run an extra special competition for those of you that are coming along. For each show there will be one winner who gets to bring along a friend. We will meet you at the show, give you some Muse goodies, take you for a tour backstage, let you go somewhere pretty special to watch the band for part of their set and, best of all, you'll get to meet the band after the show.

The winners of this awesome prize will be the first people to email us with the following:

    Your name.

    Your age.

    Your phone number (preferably mobile).

Which gig you are coming to (this bit is important as the three winners will be the first people to email us for each gig, if you get your email in first, but don't tell us which gig you're coming to, then you won't win)!

Simple? Not quite... You see, we're not going to tell you which email address you need to send your entry to. You're going to need to work it out by solving the equation below. Good Luck!

    (2/1 8/4 . @) - 8/1 = email address

    Hint: think alternative medicines...

TSP: Please note, you need to have your own ticket for entry to the show and the prize doesn't include transport or accommodation. We will contact the winners by email and/or mobile and announce them on muse.mu on Monday 11th August.

  • Very specific laws on underage sex in UK please?

Right, I fully understand that it is still totally illegal, and I understand that a few people on here probably will want to tell me it's wrong to do it or express their views against it, but please just answer the question?

I'm 14, 15 in March. My boyfriend is 17, 18 in June. We both went to grammar schools and therefore are well educated. If I were to give him consent for sex, I know that he COULD be punished by law, but WOULD he be?

    It might seem like a silly question but I get my logic like this;

I've heard that if a girl is very, very drunk and over 16 and she cries rape then the guy hardly ever gets punished because of the circumstances.

If you could answer please, that would be great. Also please try to state how you know.

And can you try to keep your opinions to yourself please, I'm just asking.

    Thankyou very much. x

  • I've written a short story; would you please give me criticism on it?

I'll add it in in additional details.

Basically; I know it's too twisty turny, there's too many "he's" and "she's", it's not a very good desription and it's quite repetative.

To be honest; I'm almost 15 and have never been in that situation so I think it's a pretty good description bearing that in mind.

But I think it's awful; the reason I'm posting it is so that you can tell me what you think's wrong with it and I can improve it.

    Thankyou so much :) x

  • Is it illegal for a 14year old girl to date a 17year old guy?

    Hi,

    I'm 14, my boyfriend is 17.

We don't see what we're doing wrong; we don't have sex or anything like that, just cuddle and talk LOADS and nice young couple sort of stuff.

His parents reckon it's against the law, is that true?

I'm not trying to start an arguement with them, I just want to know deep down inside that there's nothing wrong with what we're doing.

    Thankyou :)

  • Vodafone charged me £20 for a 2hour phone call WITH stop the clock?

Hi, I'm in England on Vodafone pasy as you talk with stop the clock and free weekends.

I ran a T-Mobile phone, which is in England at the moment, and we spent 01:51:56 (hours:mins:seconds) talking.

I topped up £20 this morning and texted a couple of times, so be VERY generous and say £15 credit.

Vodafone hung up my phone call and said that I have no credit.

    a) I got back from Paris yesterday, so might it be charging French rates still?

    b) Even if everything was normal, would a 1:51 phone call cost £15?

    c) Should it have really cost me £15, remembering that I have stop the clock?

    d) Is there anyway I can retrieve this credit?

Thankyou so much in advance x

  • How much does Vodafone charge abroad please?

Seeing as the Vodafone site seems COMPLEATLEY un-usable, I thought I'd ask here.

In England it's 12p per text, how much is it abroad please?

And do they charge me to recieve texts?

Only I'm going to DisneyLand Paris and I've spent £50 in two weeks texting as it is, and I don't want to have to pay 50p per text or something.

    Thankyou very much :)

  • A website that will read something in an automated voice?

You know the voices that advertise the movies? The "CRITICS ARE SAYING THIS IS THE BEST FILM SINCE ICE AGE." or whatever?

I need to type something in, and have it read out in that voice? Or any other automated kind of voice, but preferably not the latter.

    Thankyouu in advance :D xx

  • Can I become a part of the P&S family please guys? :)?

I thought that it'd be nice to ask, as I have been very disloyal to this section so far; what with floating around the other sections and all. Never said a bad word about the place though. I think it's quite nicely decorated and all. (That's not me trying to be funny. That's me finding myself amusing, in all my madness!)

I just like everyone's attitude here. Laid back with a good sense of humour.

What with common curtesy and everything, I thought I'd make sure that it's cool with everyone? :)

  • P&S people seem loyal to their area of experties. No one else does?

I've noticed that the P&S people club together and don't really go to other sections.

But other people drift (like I do tbh.)

I think it's well cool lol.

    Who else noticed this?

    Why is it?
