3 AnswersMathematics1 decade agoApplications of Calculus: Producing a Sign Diagram?
When applying differential calculus to determine the nature of turning points, I commonly come across questions requiring to produce a sign diagram:
Say you have (3-x)/e^x where e^x is positive for all x
The book gets that at x = 3 there is a maximum turning point, with sign diagram positive below 3 and negative above 3.
But how do you get the values on the sign diagram (i.e., where it is positive or neg.) ??
Is there any other way apart from graphing the function using technology or plotting in slightly lower and slightly higher values of x into the original equation?
Please help :-)!!!
