1997 Ford Explorer engine problem?
I have a 97 Ford Explorer with the 5.0L V8 and AWD, with almost 160,000 miles currently. Two days ago, my radiator started leaking a massive amount of coolant on the highway, and my engine overheated. After 10 minutes or so, I began to hear a rattling noise coming from the engine, which increased in severity gradually. It would stop when I took my foot off the gas, and increase with more throttle. I gradually lost power, and then the engine stalled out. Long story short, I replaced the radiator and thermostat, and flushed the coolant system. Now, my engine idles roughly and at a low RPM around 500-600, and there has definitely been a loss of power. What do you think is causing this? Leaking head gasket?
3 AnswersFord8 years agoWhich of these two cars should I purchase? Second generation Ford Explorer or 2004 Chevrolet Trailblazer?
I'm in the market to get a used car. Just to give some background info, I'm basing my decision on several factors: 1. Interior space and comfort, 2. Reliability and ease of replacing parts on my own, 3. Engine Power 4. off road capability (limited use ie once in a while), 5. Quality of engineering and basically how rugged the body, suspension, and 4wd system are made.
These two trucks I like because they offer a good combination of all the stuff I'm looking for, I want a large SUV thats not too huge, rides high and I can pack all my stuff into for outdoor excursions, moving junk and carrying the equipment I use for my small business. What I want to know from the experts is, which of these trucks will be more reliable and in your opinion be better for me, after reviewing my criteria. I already know that the Explorers don't have the greatest V6's, either a really underpowered OHV one or a SOHC with more power but a horrible design with the three hard to reach timing chains that need to be replaced. The 5.0L V8 is nice, but horrible design flaw is that there is full time 4wd on V8 models, so gas mileage is going to horrendous and steering and acceleration won't be as good. I like the Trailblazer's inline 6, but it seems like overall the truck is not as rugged as the Explorer. What are your thoughts? Thanks
2 AnswersBuying & Selling9 years agoIf I live in MD but my Dad lives in California, can I apply to University of California Schools in state?
I want to go to either UC Berkeley or UC Davis, and I am interested in applying in state. I previously lived in california for 10 years, and my Dad has stayed there. I have gone to high school in Maryland, and am now applying to colleges. I would like to know if I can apply in state if my Dad has residency in CA, because I would have a better chance of getting in in state.

4 AnswersVideo & Online Games1 decade agoI need ideas on how to improve my chances at receiving an appointment to one of the military academies?
My largest goal at the moment is becoming a combat pilot in the Air force or Navy, and winning an appointment to either of the respective academies. I have been taking many steps in the last few years to gain an appointment to either academy. As of now I am a freshman in high school and have already ran on my cross country team and swam on my swim team. I have played soccer on an out of school team for 4 years as well. Academically I have performed well so far, Averaging 3.65 in all honors classes. Outside of school I have been participating in Civil Air Patrol, the USAF auxilliary, accrued many community service hours through the local YMCA, CAP and other volunteer organizations. I believe that I have already made myself more competitive for a nomination due to my service in CAP. I am already a Staff Sergeant and the Public affairs officer at my Squadron. I am counting on earning the grade of Colonel, and receiving the highest award in the CAP cadet program by my junior year. I will also have received the community service award at my school by then. I want your expert advise on more things I can do between now and the time I will interview for my nomination. Thanks

3 AnswersProgramming & Design1 decade agoI'm wondering if you can identify this aircraft?
Today I was at the Presidential Inauguration, and a large, twin engine turboprop military aircraft was flying in large circles on the perimeter of DC. I had the idea that it was a reconnaissance or ELINT aircraft with the air force, it had a large conventional tail, a large unswept wing, two propeller driven engines under the wing, and an elongated fuselage. Any ideas?
