Clueless about college costs?
I think I'll be going to a Junior College for my first two years and here is some info that I've taken about the pricing, I just wanted to make sure I was understanding everything correctly.
Since I am an Illinois resident and will be staying at home or buying an apartment, I am only looking at the Tuition for Illinois Residents, Books, and Other Fees, correct?
And these fees are for a full school year (not semester or anything like that)?
Total One Academic Year Cost
Illinois Residents: $18,789
Non Illinois Residents: $19,461
Cost Itemization
Tution for Illinois Residents: $7,061
Tution for non-Illinois Residents: $7,733
Room and Board or estimated off campus living expense: $9,568
Books and Supplies: $1,350
Other Fees: $810
And what does this mean exactly, I understand tuition and fees, but what does credit hour mean? (and maybe some more info on them, please)
In-District Residents
$80.00 tuition + $27 fees = $107 per credit hour
1 AnswerHigher Education (University +)8 years agoWhat does "explore in writing the validity of..." mean?
So I'm writing an essay for a book I had to read (How to Read Literature Like a Professor) and I'm supposed to "explore in writing the validity of..." three chapters of the book and using analysis and evidence from another novel that I have to read.
So in short, what is the prompt asking me? To explain how the author's points in the book are valid and use the other novel that I read as evidence?
2 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years agoCumulative GPA- weighted or unweighted- which counts?
So I've started to look at colleges and many say you need an ACT/SAT over so and so and a GPA over so and so to get accepted.
Since I still have one more year of high school, my cumulative GPA may still change, but as of right now, I have a 3.0/unweighted and a 3.5/weighted.
When looking at colleges and stuff, is the 3.0/unweighted GPA the one I should be looking at? Does the weighted one matter at all?
Thanks

4 AnswersWords & Wordplay8 years ago"Photo Studio" Lamps?
Sorry for the stupid question, but I'm a teenage girl and I'm not really familiar with these things; I usually use off-camera flash instead of continuous lighting...
Anyway, I purchased 3 vintage Smith Victor reflector lights (model A8UL) at a yard sale the other day for pretty cheap; they came with these big old 150Watt bulbs that go really hot really fast. My dad told me to throw those out and he got me some "EIKO Compact Flourescent PAR38 23Watts 1210Lumens, 4100K Color Temp". Are these bulbs going to give a decent amount of light, or do I need something stronger if I'm going to be using them for table-top product photography?

1 AnswerMathematics8 years agoWater waves - period and oscillation?
I don't know how to solve for part a of the following problem- what formula do I use?
Water waves travel 3.4 meters in 1.8 seconds. Period of oscillation is 1.1 seconds.
a. What is the speed of the water waves?
b. What is the wavelength?
I know the answer to this one; 2.1 meters
1 AnswerPhysics8 years agoFrequency of a 404 nm light in a vacuum?
(I know that the answer is 7.43x10^14 Hz, but I'm not sure how to come up with the answer)
Velocity = frequency x wavelength
2 AnswersPhysics8 years agoPotential/Kinetic Energy problem - physics?
A 20kg rock is at the edge of a 100m cliff. The rock falls from the cliff.
a. What is its kinetic energy just before it strikes the ground? (KE=1/2xmxv^2)
b. What speed does the rock have as it strikes the ground?
Please help, I don't understand how you go about finding the numbers to plug into the equation and what equation to use for part b.
2 AnswersPhysics8 years agoMy glasses broke and I NEED them?
I was hit in the face and one of the legs of my glasses snapped off completely. I wear them full time and my vision is really bad without them and I get terrible migraines. I won't be able to see the optometrist until Monday after school and I don't have insurance, warranty on the glasses, or money to replace the glasses (I just got them about a month ago and cost my parents so much money :( ).
I don't know what to do, I'm panicking and tears are streaming down my face. I can barely see two feet in front of me and I won't be able to see the board at school or anything and I can't deal with 24/7 migraines.
Please help!
3 AnswersOptical8 years agoCollege & my Highschool grades...?
My first two years of highschool were bad; I was battling and eating disorder, which really focused my attention away from school and caused me to do pretty poorly... However, I was in Honors classes since freshmen year and AP classes since sophomore. My GPA was somewhere around 2.4 ish (unweighted).
However, this year, my junior year, I have really turned around and have been working much harder and juggling three AP classes. I've improved very much and now my GPA is around 3.4.
If I continue this upward grade trend into my senior year, do you think it will look good for colleges and cancel out my bad grades from fresh/soph? I don't want my stupid mistakes and decisions I made back then to kill my chances for college even though I am doing much better now.

Thanks in advance, this is one question I keep getting stumped on. :(
1 AnswerPhysics8 years agoI have glasses frames- where to get prescription lenses?
I was wondering, is there some place or website where I can send my frames that I already have and have them put in my prescription and send them back to me?
Most places that I've seen online, you have to buy the frames for them and then fill in your prescription numbers and they'll fill them.
Or are there any cheap places I can go to get them filled? (I've checked with Vision Works and Lenscrafters and just basic lenses are going to run me $200+), I was thinking Walmart Optical is my best bet, they charge $60 for basic anti-glare + $10 fee for bringing in my own frames.
1 AnswerOptical8 years agoPhysics: How would I solve this math?
I have the correct answer to the problem, but the answer that I'm coming up with is not correct.
I think my mistake is here:
247,517.8 = √ (2.38 X 10^17) / (6.67 X 10^-11) (M)
The M is what I am solving for.
The square root is over the whole thing (right side of = sign).
The "2.83..." is the numerator, (6.67...) X (M) is the denominator.
Answer should be (1.25 X 10^6)
3 AnswersMathematics8 years agoWeighted/unweighted grade - what to look at and how to calculate it?
Okay, so let's say we consider my 5 core classes; 3 of which are AP (so, weighted?) and the other 2 are regular.
Here are the grades that I got (I'm a HS Junior, btw) :
AP Class 1 - A
AP Class 2 - A
AP Class 3 - B
Regular Class 1 - B
Regular Class 2 - C
How does one go about in calculating their weighted/unweighted GPA?
And roughly what GPA range can be considered under average, average, above average?
Thanks!

2 AnswersPhysics8 years agoMy parents are very obese, but won't stop eating :(?
My parents, more specifically, my dad are very obese according to charts. I worry about their health, but they never listen to me, they say it's none of my business. I try to recommend healthy recipes or food and promote physical activity, but again, they don't listen to me. All I want to do is help them and it just really frustrates and worries me....
My father is the worst, he goes to Walmart or somewhere and buys tons of cheap chips and cookies and hides them in the garage. Then, when he gets home (and eats a HUGE and unhealthy dinner, usually smothered in cheese, butter, oils, and lots of bread/starch), he goes downstairs and take a bag or box of his junkfood with him and eats it down there while watching TV by himself.
I've attempted to get rid of his food and hide it or throw it outside for the birds to eat, but when he finds out, he gets furious and punches me.
I don't know what else to do... like I said, they won't listen to me at all. My dad looks at me and says, "What are you, a dietician!? Are you qualified to tell me what I can and can't eat?!"
1 AnswerDiet & Fitness8 years agoWhich Class is More Helpful to Take - AP Psych or Anatomy/Physiology?
I'll be a senior next year and I am still unsure of what I want to do when I get out of high school...
I am interested in AP Psychology and Anatomy/Physiology, both full-year classes.
Regardless of what my future career may be, which of these two classes do you think will help me and be more worth taking? Even though one is and the other isn't, I've heard that they are both equally challenging.
