When i have Linux or Ubuntu installed onto my desktop computer, will i get updates for it through email or through automatic update?

i ask because i want to know the difference from Internet Explorers updating method.

i want to know if you can move the book you download somewhere else, like to a card or usb, after downloading to a main device like your laptop or ebook. Is it possible to move an ebook you pay for around freely?
