  • What do you think about this quote and video by a comedian about gay marriage & how we treat homosexuals?

This stand-up routine by Lewis C.K. is hilarious. I highly recommend watching it and not just reading. There is a lot more to it that this. I almost fell out of my chair laughing.

It doesn’t have any effect on your life. What do you care? People try to talk about it like it’s a social issue. Like when you see someone stand up on a talk show and say “How am I supposed to explain to my child that two men are getting married? I dunno, it’s your shitty kid, you ******* tell them. Why is that anyone else’s problem? Two guys are in love but they can’t get married because you don’t want to talk to your ugly child for ******* five minutes?

  • Since God said that we shall have no OTHER gods before him, can we still worship OTHER gods just not as much?

The very first commandment, God is speaking directly to Moses. God, himself, says there are OTHER gods.

Exodus 20:2. I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage. 3. Thou shalt have no OTHER gods before me.

Deuteronomy 5:7: You shall have no OTHER gods before Me.

So, I take it that I can still worship the other gods, but after I worship Yahweh first, and I have to worship them less.

  • Why is it that thousands of years ago when people had visions or saw things in the sky they were believed...?

...and created religions that are still followed without question today? If someone sees something in the sky or has visions today, at best it is said they saw an alien, but usually they are considered to be crazy. Basically, my thought is that religious people are believing things that 1000's of years old crazy people said.

  • A question for an optician dealing with the phoropter test (lens flipping).?

This has happened to me on a couple of occasions. And, I've never been bold enough to ask enough questions. Thinking back on it, though, I really wish I had; because, it really bugs me.

During this test you flip back and forth quickly and ask what looks better. I try to describe the differences, but the optician just seems to ignore me and moves to the next one. One in particular, that really bugged me, in my last exam, was that some of the letters appeared crooked. They were clearer and more readable but they were crooked (at an angle). The optician took that as the best choice. Clear but crooked is not good enough for me.

Is this normal, or should I pressure them to try again?

(I already know that I have an astigmatism. I am asking about the particularities of this test.)

  • Is magic in TV shows and movies really bad?

Ever since I was a kid, and my grand parents even told me stories from when they were younger. Religious folk have said that watching TV or movies with magic, witchcraft, or sorcery is bad for children and will lead them to witchcraft or pagan beliefs. I still see it today with my sister refusing to let her kids watch the Harry Potter movies. This has been going on since Disney's "Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs" (1938) and TV shows like "Bewitched" and "I Dream of Jeanie" in the 1960's.

I look around today and I do not see covens all over the place, or new pagan churches. If shows like these really lead to people practicing witchcraft, don't you think we would see a lot more of it by now??

  • Why do (some) Christians not understand that they are not to be judgmental and hateful (Romans 12)?

I am not one of the ones who believe that all Christians are hateful. I actually know quite a few very loving, tolerant, and kind Christians. (My dad isn't one of them.) Here is an excerpt from Romans 12. It is one of my favorite passages of the bible.

    14. Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.

    15. Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.

    16. Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.

    17. Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.

    18. If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.

    19. Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

If more Christians acted like this, I would probably still be a Christian. I was driven away from the church by hate. When people tell me to covert or I will be cast into a pit of unimaginable fire, torture, misery, and suffering, my concept of God goes from loving to: "OMG your God is an Evil, Maniacal, Childish Super Villain that throws tantrums when he does not get his way!" I don't want anything to do with a God like that.

  • A Biblical question for Christians who say that marriage has always been between one man and one woman...?

In Genesis 38. Judah asked Onan to marry his Brother's wife and make babies with her. When he reneged on his obligation God KILLED Him. So, I guess marriage can be between a man and his brother and a woman. Is this correct???

    8. And Judah said unto Onan, Go in unto thy brother's wife, and marry her, and raise up seed to thy brother.

    9. And Onan knew that the seed should not be his; and it came to pass, when he went in unto his brother's wife, that he spilled it on the ground, lest that he should give seed to his brother.

    10. And the thing which he did displeased the LORD: wherefore he slew him.

  • Is it proper for a Christian to pray for misfortune to befall someone?

My stepmother prays for misfortune to to happen in non-believers lives so that they will hit rock bottom and turn to God for salvation. To me, this seems as bad as the witchcraft that she denounces as evil. It is just like casting a spell for evil. I think this type of prayer is evil. What are your thoughts?

  • Why don't Christian churches/groups speak out against Westboro Baptist church?

I was impressed by the thoughtful answers from Christians who don't agree that Westboro Baptist Church represents their views. Why then are only the Hell's Angels, gay, and left leaning groups the only people who stand against them? Where are the outraged Christians that should be in their face saying: You are not Christian. You do not represent us!

  • Westboro Baptist Church will boycott Betty Ford's funeral, what are your thoughts? Christians?

Westboro Baptist Church is at it again. What do you think of this most vocal Christian group? They say it is because Betty Ford divorced her first husband and married Gerald Ford just to get access to the press and talk about sex.
