I am a retired msgt from the air force with 20 yrs experience in food service and worked as a chef in numerous places for another 20 yrs until I just became service connected disabled..been in 37 different countries and enjoy cooking which I can still do at home...learned a lot of different foods and some neat little tricks...but as i always said in the service you are never to old to learn, all my life i made it a point to learn at least 1 thing every day ..i am now 59 years old....

  • caring for baby chinchillas?

    just today my chinchillas had 2 babys is there any special thinggs nned to be done the mother allows the father to be in the little house with the young and he comes out of his house if you go near the babbies...the two of them have been together for 1 1/2 years now and they get along fine....he even went in and slept with her and the babies today...they are in a 61/2 foot cage with 8 different shelves. the babies seem to want to come out and play ...i have raised a lot of things that were young but these are so big and she didnt look pregant......

  • Missing cookbook with a recipe i must have....?

    i had a Mrs Beetons cookbook it was burgandy in color and as you see it was written by mrs beeton...i loaned it to someone and they misplaced it ...i think it dated back to the 50's or even sooner and it was british.....i need the recipes for suet pastry from it if anyone in britian may just have a copy........i want to make steak and kidney pud and i use that pastry recipe....thank you again if you happen to have it.....rob'ert and i am driving myself crazy trying to remember it......im hungry....

  • Turducken....is it worth the price and time????

    I recieved a gift certificate for a turducken about 15 lbs...what i am not looking is not how to prepare it or make it . i am wanting to know if the meats can be seperated in taste as well as the different stuffings.....you dont have to be a cajun to answer my question...i just wanted some feed back so i will know what to except in a way as i was considering having it for Thanksgivin'the one i want has 4 different stuffings inside of it.....that you please give an honest answer i dont want where how from the net........a.real opinion that your taste buds came up with....Ive been wanting to try one for year and now its free but if I get to much negative reply i can buy something else like cajun spices and frozen crawfish and some alligator.........to use in some of my dishes......

  • dutch additive in making coffee?

    when i was in holland i was at some peoples home and they were making a pot of coffee and they were using the melita type coffee filter with boiled water from a kettle...but to the coffee grounds they add spoonful of this powder looked like instant coffe and smelled strong ....they i think called it cafee stroep...and if i can remenber i think the name of the company was buismans...this is going back to 1976.....i would appreciate where it can be purchased in states and the name..it made the coffe so delightful and strong ...not over bearing strong...thanx..cheers

  • looking for a recipe for candy that my mother made at christmas and passed away without passing it on?

    it is a candy that used mashed potatoes &powdered sugar and vanilla and ? i can remember these were mixed to gether and rolled out on wax paper..like a pastry dough...then there was a filling of peanut butter and ??? then this was rolled up like a jelly roll and sliced to make pin wheels...but its been 50 years since i seen it made ...i want to add some to my asst xmas trays for friends......thank you....

  • how long will perenial herbs for cooking keep growing?

    i had mine outside in pots all summer and will bring inside for the winter........have already dried quite a bit but would like the fresh without having to take out a loan to buy them
