If I'm renting a home on a lease agreement with at least one other person, and they buy out of the lease, are they free of liability?
For example, let's say we have hard wood floors. Now assume we've scratched these floors to oblivion, and the landlord will have to replace them before renting a new tenant.
Now let's say I or my room mate decide to buy out of the lease early. Does the person buying out free themselves of liability for the damages? There is no real way to prove when, how, or by who the damages were inflicted, so logically we would all be responsible. Even if they bought themselves out before the end of the lease agreement, or I did so myself, we'd all still be responsible for anything that happened at the location until the agreement was ended.
I want to know because if my room mate damages the place, and then buys out, I don't want to be held completely responsible. They lived in the home, too, and they should fork out some responsibility.
Please give me an accurate answer, with references if possible. Thank you.
9 AnswersRenting & Real Estate6 years agoWhat are some methods for storing cars?
I'll be moving in with a friend soonish, and she lives in an apartment so I can't bring my car as there is no where to stick it.
Are there any methods for storing cars outside of a home? Sort of like a public storage unit but for a car, specifically. So like a car storage.
Please and thank you.
5 AnswersOther - Cars & Transportation7 years agoIn Microsoft Excel 2013, how do I cut off the ends of cells by column row?
So, as an example, let's say I had 5 cells, with words, in a column. The words are: 6, 9, 7, 12, and 8 characters in length. What would be the method of cutting off and deleting all of the character beyond the fifth, so that all of the cells now only contain the first 5 characters of their original words, in all of the cells at once?
I vaguely remember that this is possible, but I'm having difficulty figuring out how to do it, and I'm not entirely sure what this technique is called, so it's hard to find an answer with Google.

2 AnswersSoftware7 years agoWhy did my computer randomly stop working?
So, I was just playing a shooter game, and my computer randomly shut down. No blue screen, no error message. It just straight up turned right off.
I am now unable to turn my computer on. As far as I knew, the computer was just fine, and still is. All the cables are properly plugged in, switches and whatnot are all on, even the lights on the back of the computer (where the Ethernet is plugged in) are still working... but I can't power it on.
I am at a complete loss. I don't wanna start taking my computer apart without some ideas as to why this might be happening. I know it can't possibly be the power supply, that would mean everything wasn't working, and there is definitely a light on in the back. And if it were a drive, then I would have likely received an error, and would still be able to turn the computer on, just not boot to the drive.
Other than a power supply or drive failure, I can't even think of what might be causing this.I spent about 20 minutes poking and prodding every viable inch of my computer, fiddling with cables in and out, seeing if maybe something was loose somewhere. I've never had something like this happen before, and I've been through 4 or 5 computers with numerous issues spread out over 20 years of living. This is the WEIRDEST problem I've ever had, swear.
Please (very much so) and thank you for any help!
2 AnswersDesktops7 years agoHow would I transfer the display of one computer to another via HDMI?
I'm fixing a friend's computer, but a rather irritating complication came up. His laptop's screen is broken, so what he usually does is hook up his laptop to a computer monitor via VGA. Unfortunately, the only capability I have is HDMI, as I am fixing a laptop with a laptop. I was wondering how I would sort of transfer the contents of the monitor on his laptop to mine? I want to make it so his display pops up on my screen with HDMI.
Is this possible? When I Google 'hdmi computer to computer' or any variant, it gives me results for connecting to a TV or PC tower monitor, which I already know how to do.
Please and thank you :)
2 AnswersMonitors7 years agoWhat type of security camera should I get for this situation?
My tires recently got slashed, and I'm skeptical of it happening again after fixing them, so I'd like to get myself a cheap but decent / working security camera. However, I'm not sure if I should get CCTV, Analog, or what.
I live in an apartment complex, far in the back area. At night, the lighting is poor, and it's pretty dark outside. I can see my car from my window, so if I got a standing camera, I could conceal it and set it in the window sill. Other than that, I suppose anything is fair game.
My only stipulations are something in the range of $60-, and that I can wirelessly connect it to my computer since I spend a lot of time on said computer, and so would be able to watch it mostly at all times. It also needs to be able to record, so I can turn in evidence if this happens again.
Please and thank you for all help :)
3 AnswersCameras7 years agoIs non-homerow, two-handed touch typing a bad thing?
What I mean to say is that if I can type really fast (about 80-90 wpm) with a very low error rate, without having to use the home row, does that matter at all? Or do people strongly endorse the need to use home row?
I would think not, because I can still type very effectively without looking at my keyboard, I can type very fast, and I seldom make any errors. But I need to make sure before I start telling jobs, right off the bat, "Ya, I don't use home row. But I'm still really good!" I mean, I guess NOT using home row is kind of weird to a lot of people. My friends are usually surprised when they first find out my speeds and how I do my typing (lots of poking). I would just tell them I type really fast and show them in person or in a test or something, home row be damned.
Not trying to brag or anything, I know there are plenty of people that can type loads faster than me. I just need to make sure whether or not I should include, "Doesn't use home row," or something.
Please and thank you for your help.

2 AnswersComics & Animation8 years agoIs there an addition counterpart to factorial?
I remember factorial as multiplying from a number to a number in increments of 1.
So, factorial 5 would be 1*2*3*4*5, for 120.
I want something like 1+2+3+4+5 so I can calculate values increasing in a set pattern of addition... I just don't know what that's called, and what the operator would be (for a calculator).
3 AnswersMathematics8 years agoIn Fallout: New Vegas, where do I need to place my ironsights to score a hit?
Pretty sure I've tried all vertical positions, from having my target a few millimeters above the tip / center of the sight, to a few millimeters below the sight, and everywhere in between... yet, it seems as if I can never hit a target past what I would consider medium range.
It's really, really annoying, because I KNOW my sights are on the target, and yet I never, ever, EVER hit.
Is there an absolute maximum range on weapons? Or is there still bullet spread when in ironsights? Like, if I'm using a rifle, is it possible for the shot to fly a few degrees left or right even if I am pointing directly at my enemy? If so, does raising my Guns skill / condition of weapon maybe fix this? Where should I be pointing the center of my sight if I want to, say, score a headshot? I primarily use rifles, and I never had any real issues scoring headshot after headshot in Fallout 3 with a simple hunting rifle... but for some reason, I can't seem to get the positioning right in New Vegas... or something.
Please help, I've always favored beating my enemies at long-range and am usually rather good at it (I panic in close combat and miss a lot), and this is putting a real chip on my shoulder.
3 AnswersVideo & Online Games8 years agoMerchant-esque simulation games?
Games where you trade goods, real estate, and other such things in an attempt to expand your 'empire' and stuff.
I remember playing a game called Patrician a long time ago, and it was pretty damn difficult to master (I was only like 10, so I had the patience of a dolphin, however, and gave up rather fast). Though I'll probably try that game again here soon, I'd like to explore other titles with similar elements to that particular game.
Anything and everything is a good suggestion. I'm willing to do my research if I have a name. The center needs to be around mercantile, though. It can have armies and conquests and stuff as the *side*, perhaps you're supplying troops to a king or something, but shouldn't be the main element unless it's heavy on economics for you to be successful (like, you probably won't have any sort of 'army' unless you spend a lot of time working your stuff out beforehand).
Please and thank you :)
1 AnswerVideo & Online Games9 years agoWhat are some good 'magical girlfriend' anime shows?
I've already seen Video Girl Ai, and have watched most of Ah! My Goddess, but I wanna see some more.
I kinda like the idea of regular guy being tossed into magical girlfriend's world; really dramatic and usually funny / eventful if done well.
4 AnswersComics & Animation9 years agoWhat do American citizens get to directly vote for?
I mean, our president gets picked by an electoral college, our electors get from a variety of different sources (none of them, I believe, are 'The People'), so who chooses the people that vote our electors in? And so on and so forth.
Where is an American's vote really important? I know it's somewhere in there, I just don't know enough about Politics to find it, haha.
4 AnswersElections9 years agoWhat are some decent (or better than decent) 2D RPGs out there?
I recently played and beat both 'Cthulu Saves the World' and 'Breath of Death VII: The Beginning' (both by the same company), and it has brought back what I thought to be a dead interest in such games... which causes me to wonder how I could have ever fallen out of interest in games like these!
I don't care what era it's from, I'm just looking for some good 2D RPGs like the two listed above (and those two really ARE awesome; try them sometime).
Bonus points if they allow resolutions greater than 640x480, which is basically the only thing I can't stand about older games, since I like being able to see a LOT of the game.
Please and thank you!
2 AnswersVideo & Online Games9 years agoWhat's a good way to keep up-to-date on political goings-on?
I'm not very happy about the election results, but I'd at least like to watch what he does to see if he does any better than the last four years. I wasn't really 'old enough' to understand all this stuff four years ago, but I want to see what happens from day one to four years from now this time around.
Recommend 2+ sites that are good for checking out what's going in politics? I say 2+ because from what I've seen, a lot of people include subjectivity in what they report on politics (like the news channels!). Having just one site as your all-inclusive source isn't smart, from what I hear.
Please and thank you.
1 AnswerCivic Participation9 years agoWhat are some good starting points for game programming / game design?
I've recently taken an interest in programming and designing games, mostly due to a friend of mine who is constantly showing me these cool little '15-minute-time-wasters' that he comes up with every month which is the seed of my awe and envy.
I'm not completely sure where I could (or better yet, SHOULD) start, so I'm looking for general tips and a nudge in the right direction. I think I understand that basically nobody can start out designing levels, games, and leading projects like that, so I think I need to start on the programming level (putting together what the guys I just mentioned would imagine up), assuming I wanted to get my foot in the door.
Books (paid or free), dedicated websites, examples, diagrams, concepts, study guides, practice exams, brochures, pamphlets (are those last two the same thing?), index cards, whatever ya got. Lay it on me! I'm just overwhelmed by all the possibilities Google likes to throw at me (the greatest search engine's greatest weakness, really).
Please and thank you :)
2 AnswersProgramming & Design9 years agoWhere can I sell unwanted gift cards?
I recently bought some testing preparation materials from a very awesome website, about $120 worth of practice tests and e-booklets. The website sent me three (3) $25 gift cards to iTunes in the mail, amounting to a total of $75 of gift cards I will never use.
Not that I'm not grateful, but I have never bought a single thing from iTunes in my life, and don't intend to. What's a good way, if any such way exists, to maybe turn in these gift cards somewhere for some or all of the money they are worth? Or perhaps exchange these gift cards at full value for another company? If I could get $50-$75 today for these cards, that would be pretty cool. I also wouldn't mind converting this money into $75 at Best Buy or Fry's, or even just Fred Meyer or Wal-Mart... or anything.
The cards haven't even been scratched yet, so they might as well be brand spanking new, if that matters at all.
Please and thank you for all help in advance.
2 AnswersOther - Business & Finance9 years agoAre there any games strongly resembling Trials HD for the PC?
Trials HD / Trials Evolution for XBox Live Arcade.
My room mate has a XBox360, and is really into consoles. I, however, am into computers, mainly PCs. He got this game called 'Trials HD', which is like a physics-based racing-like sim, with a sort of 'puzzle' feel to it. It's really cool, and I've played it a few times, and was hoping to get it for PC but it does not exist.
I would like to find a game that is similar in gameplay, function, and objective. The physics-obstacle course style play with medals / money as a rewards for completing levels, reaching difficulty milestones, and other such things. It's a breath of fresh air from all the shooters, RPGs, and strategy games I usually play!
Please and thank you in advance.
1 AnswerPC9 years agoIs it possible to pay a ticket after it's overdue?
My room mate got a ticket around two months ago, and for whatever reason never paid it and never went in for his court date.
I am almost completely positive he already has a warrant out for his arrest. So, now I'm wondering, if he pays it will he be able to avoid any and all jail time that would come with it? Like, even if it's been a month or so since the warrant was issued, will him paying the fine (plus whatever they're probably charging him for being late), will he be good to go? Or is he basically screwed no matter what happens?
Thank you in advance!
3 AnswersLaw Enforcement & Police9 years agoJust got hit by 'ransom ware'; how do I fix this?
Explanation of what happened follows:
I was listening to some music on YouTube while writing up a report, when suddenly my entire screen got conquered by a border-less window demanding $200 in the name of the FBI for 'illegal activity' (not specified), or else the computer would remain locked in the described fashion. Couldn't even see my task bar or anything else: the window covered everything to the edges of my monitor.
I tried every shortcut I could think of to get Task Manager, or just anything at all to pop up on my screen so I could shut it down. Unfortunately, I've never dealt with a virus that successfully takes over my entire screen and appears to have that 'stay on top of other windows' thing going on. So, no matter what I did, I couldn't get anything to show up on the screen besides this damn window.
As I cursed to the heavens, I restarted my computer with the button on my tower. Everything SEEMS okay now: it didn't pop up again, and I'm doing whatever without a problem. But I feel like this isn't the end of it.
I'd just like to know how to figure out where this thing came from, and how I can make sure it never happens again. Since I didn't even get a chance to look at the process for the virus, I have no idea what it might be called, or where it might be found. I did a quick scan with Norton, it says everything is cool (no viruses detected, yippee!), but for some reason I don't believe that.
A link with instructions to my specific virus would also suffice.
Please and thank you!
