  • Goldfish blowing bubbles at top of tank?

I have 1 goldfish in a 12L tank, it has a Marina internal filter that sucks water in at the bottom of the filter and kind of waterfalls it down from the top. The man at the pet store said this was sufficient filtration and it also puts oxygen into the water so we didn't need a bubbler. The tank also has a rock cave, fake plant, and coloured gravel bottom.

The only explanation I've heard for goldfish blowing bubbles is lack of oxygen but I don't think it's that due to the above info.

I change the water and scrub all the algae off the inside of the tank and things inside every 1-2 weeks, but the fish doesn't seem to be any better after that. Lately he has sat motionless near the bottom a lot of the time too, though if you tap the glass he will start moving and go blow bubbles again

  • How to complete a hamburger eating challenge?

1 week from today, I have agreed to take part in a hamburger eating challenge at a restaurant and I'm not sure I will be able to do it and I want some tips.

The challenge is: 30 minutes to eat a large burger with 2 - 6 oz burgers and 2 - 8 oz burgers on a single set of buns, with piri piri sauce (hot) and hot peppers, as well as fries.

What is the best strategy? I am planning to drink lots of water for 2 or 3 days before to stretch my stomach. I have also read eating cabbage is good to stretch your stomach. What else can I do?

Not only from a preparation standpoint, but for the burger itself. Should I dip the buns in water to make them easier to eat? Should I eat it as a regular burger, or what? Should I eat all the hot peppers first, or last, or just leave them on the burger?

I can eat Big Macs or Double Whoppers with fries but I feel quite full after, so not sure if I can finish this giant burger or not. Any tips would be great as I will win my name on the wall and a free drink, etc if I can complete the challenge.

  • Ground Cherry... cross pollenated with tomato?

I bought seeds for a plant called Ground Cherry this year, which the package says should be a small fruit the size of gooseberries used for pies.

I planted them in the garden next to some tomatoes and I was surprised to find they are growing to tomato size in their husks and then dropping off the plant while still green :S.

I am wondering if maybe they are cross-pollenating with the tomatoes and the fruit will be useless? Then I searched and found that Tomatillos can also be referred to as ground cherries but are much larger and similar to what I've got.

I haven't tasted one yet since I'm not sure if they are ripe... I took the green fruit and put it in a basket in the garage to ripen until they turn yellow like the package says. I did split one open and the seeds are very small like a berry, not like a tomato.

Did I cross-pollenate a ground cherry with a tomato, or is it a tomatillo? Sounds like either way I am going to end up with something that tastes like green tomatoes instead of fruit... yuck!

  • How infrequently should you drink coffee to obtain maximum effect when you do?

I am not a coffee drinker but I had one this morning and I felt amazing... 100% more outgoing, happy, and energetic. Normally by noon I start to feel fatigued but I felt fine all day.

I would love to drink coffee every day now that I've felt the effects, but I'm worried if I do, I will build up a tolerance and it will gradually take more and more coffee to obtain the same effect.

So how often should I drink coffee to make sure my body doesn't become dependant on it... once a week? Once a month? Or would it be enough to rotate a few weeks on and then a few weeks off?

  • Can airlines charge huge additional fees like this?

I am looking at getting a flight from Canada to the UK in Janury, and it seems like there are some really good deals like $386 round-trip, but then once you get later in the check-out process of buying your tickets, they add on $400 in additional fees, fuel surcharges, etc!!!

Are they allowed to add on more fees than the initial price itself? I thought there was a law against this and it's kind of misleading. All of a sudden my $400 flight is nearly $800.

  • What to do with 10 cups of tomatoes?

So it is going to get down to freezing here tomorrow so we picked all our beets / carrots / peppers and are pickling/canning them. I just picked about 10 cups of tomatoes (a large steel bowl full). They vary from ripe to semi-ripe to green.

What should I make with them? The only thing I can think of is salsa.

  • What is a good prayer request if you wanted to "test a god"?

I am an atheist, but I have a little experiment... I am going to make a list of every good and evil deity I can think of, and pray to each one for three nights each. If one/any grant my wish, I will continue wishing and investigating the extent to which it works.

What would be a good thing to ask to start with? Not so implausible that there is no chance, but not so easy that it could happen by accident. I want to start off seeing if any of these supernatural beings can even "tip the odds".

I was thinking maybe like "let me see a platypus tomorrow". I rarely see a platypus on tv or online, but there is a chance of it. Or should I just roll dice while praying 50 times for each deity and see if it can influence the results?

  • What summer business should I start?

So I can get a $3,000 grant from the government to start my own business. I have a fairly extensive knowledge of business, working on my accounting degree right now... but I just have no business ideas right now.

What is a good summer business for a (university) student to start, beside something basic like cutting people's lawns or something?

  • Why is my dog licking the carpet?

My dog is about 8 years old, and he recently started to lick the carpet a lot. He never used to do it. I don't know if it is a nervous thing or if his mind is starting to go, or what. When I try to make him stop he will snap at me sometimes, he has never done that before.

It's not because there is food or anything sticky on the carpet, he does it all over the place in several different rooms.

  • How to get famous on Youtube?

I've been watching people on Youtube for a while and I know the typical stuff that gets lots of views.... Fred (aka acting like a retard), "owning" (making fun of other people), etc but I don't want to stoop to that level.

What is a fresh new idea you would like to see? What kind of stuff would you subscribe to on Youtube? I can't play any musical instruments... I was thinking maybe just take requests from my audience... people ask questions or suggest things to do (within reason), and I do it.

How do I start from 0 subscribers and get people to find my channel besides posting reply videos to famous people?

  • Will I get sick from bad milk?

I just put milk on my cereal, then noticed it expired February 27th. I rinsed it off but I didn't want to waste the cereal so I just ate it with water. Now my stomach feels kind of weird. Will I get sick, what kind of things can happen from eating bad milk?

  • How to reduce risk of baby having defect?

My wife and I are getting ready to settle down and try to have children. I was just wondering if there is anything we can do to reduce the risk of the baby having a birth defect, like down's syndrome, etc. Whether it is not eating certain things once pregnant, try to have the baby at a certain time of the month, or whatever we can do to maximize our chances of a healthy baby.

  • How much can you cut off your grocery bill by "growing your own"?

To me the math seems simple. You can buy vegetable seeds for a few cents each and produce fresh home-grown produce, or you can buy tomatoes, peppers etc from the store for dollars a piece! I figure this could especially be useful in the current economic conditions.

So my question is... do you garden to save money, and if so, how much do you save?

My second question, do you think it's possible that if someone converted their whole backyard into a carefully-planned garden, they could eliminate their need to buy fruits and vegetables from the store entirely?

  • My poo is green, like REALLY GREEN?

So I have had Diarrhea for over a month now. I went to see my doctor last week and he said I have some form of gastroenteritis, most likely Norwalk virus (norovirus). I gave 2 stool samples and I get my results back tomorrow to make sure it isn't something else that needs antibiotics.

Anyway for the last month I've had normal brown coloured diarrhea, but today I have had green diarrhea. And I mean REALLY GREEN, like grass clippings or relish colour.

What is wrong with me? Does the green colour mean that the virus is leaving my body finally, or does it have something to do with bile?

  • Which option maximizes my chances to make profit? (Poker)?

So I played in a set of free tournaments on Pokerstars last week where you can earn real money. I placed high enough 2 of the 9 (I think) that I earned real cash. I ended up with $1.50 total.

Now the dilemma is what should I do to maximize this profit?

I've narrowed it down to 6 options, 2 low-risk options where I get 6 shots at any combination of them, and 3 high-risk options where I only get one shot. The first 5 are tournaments, the last one is just playing at an actual table.

    Low-Risk

    Option 1:

    $0.25 entry fee

    45 entrants, 7 places paid:

    1st - $3.49

    2nd - $2.42

    3rd – $1.86

    4th – $1.41

    5th – $1.01

    6th – $0.67

    7th – $0.39

    Option 2:

    $0.25 entry fee

    90 entrants, 12 places paid

    1st - $6.20

    2nd - $4.17

    3rd – $3.16

    4th – $2.14

    5th – $1.57

    6th – $1.18

    7th – $0.95

    8th - $0.84

    9th - $0.67

    10th to 12th - $0.54

    High-Risk

    Option 3:

    $1.20 entry fee

    45 entrants, 7 places paid

    1st - $14.00

    2nd - $10.00

    3rd – $7.00

    4th – $5.00

    5th – $4.00

    6th – $3.00

    7th – $2.00

    Option 4:

    $1.20 entry fee

    27 entrants, 5 places paid

    1st - $10.00

    2nd - $7.20

    3rd – $4.80

    4th – $2.80

    5th – $2.20

    Option 5:

    $1.20 entry fee

    9 entrants, 3 places paid

    1st - $4.50

    2nd - $2.70

    3rd – $1.80

    Option 6:

Play at $0.01/$0.02 table with all $1.50

    - Inexperienced players that will call with marginal hands, both good and bad... bad if they get lucky.

    - I lose everything approximately 40% of the time.

I think Option 1 sounds best since I have 6 chances to make a decent profit, what about everyone else?

  • Easiest way to create an online cartoon?

I have a ton of old comics that I drew when I was younger, now I'd like to re-make them into an animated series. I don't want to be famous or anything, I just want to make it for friends and anyone else that wants to see and put it on something like Youtube.

I know most people use Flash, but is it easy to learn? I don't want to spend a ton of time mastering a new software.

I was thinking of just drawing it frame-by-frame either in Paint or Photoshop/GIMP and basically making an animated GIF (I've made GIFs in the past), then recording character voices and adding them in to Windows Movie Maker later.

    I want to have a $0 budget

I am willing to spend like 10 hours to make a 3 minute cartoon, not 100 hours.

  • Chronic Diarrhea... Should I see a doctor?

I don't know if it's related, but I got a Measles-Mumps-Rubella booster shot before Christmas.

On around Christmas I started to develop a cough and got basically a cold or maybe a mild flu. Around the same time I developed diarrhea-like symptoms (loose stools, comes out like at the rate of urine and is like a powder sitting on the toilet bowl.)

So I've had these very loose stools off-and-on for about 2 months, I have had a couple of regular stools but for the most part I have very loose ones, up to 5 times in a day.

I don't think it's parasites because I haven't seen anything in my waste, and I don't have additional appetite. My best guess is that it is viral and it's just something that I have to let pass through me, unless I developed an allergy to something suddenly.

So do you think I should see a doctor or will it go away on it's own? I don't have any discomfort, and normally I can just have a few big ones in the morning and I'm good for the day.

  • Pokerstars Real Money vs Play Money -- Skill level difference of players?

I wouldn't consider myself a professional poker player but I think I know quite a bit about it and I'm pretty good. I have a pokerstars.com account and I turned my $1,000 of play money you start with into $140,000. I have been keeping a spreadsheet for the past week or so and I've been making a consistent profit, I plan to keep tracking it for a few more weeks to make sure.

My question is... am I really that good of a poker player, or are people on the free money table just idiots? Is everyone on Pokerstars who plays for real money experts who are going to kick my butt?

If I decide to put real money in it will only be like $100 to try, which isn't a huge deal to me if I lose it.
