the buffster
Born in 1954 in West Palm Beach, Florida, was 15 before I saw snow when I moved to Ohio in 1968. Still live in Ohio, but fighting it; especially in winter. Lived for a brief stint in the Bahamas. Love music of many genres, my faves being blues; rock; jazz; and classical. Play guitar (42 years); harmonica; and am told I can sing. Have a jam/recording studio in my home and still play locally when I can make the scene. Would like to live in a place where I could wear T-shirts and shorts all year long. Like to play golf with friends, but really miss Frisbee. Some have called me The Nature Boy for my love of the outdoors (I like to camp); the wilderness is my church. Others call me MacGyver due to my blending knowledge and creativity to solve problems. I have taught Anatomy; Astronomy; Biology; Chemistry; Geology; and Physics. I'm really curious what the next phase of my life will bring. Underestimated for my understanding and respect most folks, unless you blow it.
It Didn't Make Any Sense!!!!?
Inspired while answering a question by Tesla Girl, I've got this one for you:
What music from any albums in your collection contain a song that you just don't understand why it didn't become a hit? It sticks in your craw; why didn't the Powers That Be decide to exclude this gem from the masses? You can cite one in particular, or let the R&P Universe know of ALL the transgressions. I will apologize in advance for not having at least one of my own here; the question came up too fast for me to check out my collection for guidance. I may be back with an edit.
13 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoMore Fun With Anagrams?
Inspired by Sara's question regarding the letters of "those" bands being made to fit new names, I got to thinking. It was too easy; after all, if those bands DO serve a purpose, it's probably in that they serve to unite most of the rest of us. So let's head for hallowed ground and come up with new names to fit these (and any others you can think of):
CSNY
RHCP
BOC
NRPS
AIC
ELP
GFR
GNR
ACDC
AWB
BBHC
12 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoCalling All Video Mavens !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Okay R&Pers! Think of the best video you've seen for it's own sake. I'm not talking about musicianship here, so no need to go into killer solos or anything like that. What's the best video you've seen that makes the best use of the medium and the message? I was just talking with a close friend and my pick is Robert Palmer's "Addicted To Love" just because of the overall feeling of the piece. I know, I know; it would be better if the girls actually looked like they were playing their instruments, but I don't think that's the gist of the piece. Here's the link if you've never seen it before, or would like to refresh the old gray matter:

I've been trying the link from the message, but have been encountering some problems. If you have the same fate, just go to youtube.com, type in Robert Palmer and it should be the first video. Sorry if this occurs.
You may not agree so please tell the buffster why your's rocks your world! Thanks!

Think about it. Tires wear out all the time. Where does all that rubber go?
4 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoA celebratory question for R&P?
Gooood Morning, R&P!!! Not that I was trying (yeah, right, buffster), but I just got the ol' TC badge back. So to celebrate, I'm asking you to search the memory banks and the collections to give me your most arcane, esoteric, and little-known rock song that you just can't stay still for when you hear it! I'm waiting . . .
15 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoWhen I say Jo Jo Gunne?
1) what do you think about?
2) what song (if any) comes to mind?
3) do you have any in your collection?
4) any related stories?
5 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoRock and a hard place?
Let's hear your favorite rock song about being in dire straits; between a rock and a hard place; just about to give it all up; or conteplating mortality? This isn't for a comprehensive list, you Konstant Keyboarders! Just gimme one song, please? (that's why I called it a fave)
21 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoRock song that reminds you of desert?
Awright, you R&Pers! Let's expand the theoretical cake questions! What rock song best reminds you of a great desert? Let the ala mode begin!
23 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoDo you give thumbs up to counter?
the trolls giving all the thumbs down? I've been known to give a thumbs up to everyone in a question that appears to have been "trolled" just to counteract the action. How about you? (darn trolls)
21 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoThoughts about edits?
Hello All. I really appreciate when an asker takes the time to go back and respond to some of the answers posted to their question. It's my way of knowing whether or not any answer has had an impact. I know a lot of regs here do that (thank-you), but that it takes even more time on Y!A. What are your feelings?
16 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoGot snow yet?
Here in west central Ohio (U.S.) we're looking at about 5-7 inches of the white stuff, and the 40 mph winds have created drifts over one foot. The area schools have already posted 2 hour delays and it's only 6:00pm EDT Sunday. How is it where you are?
21 AnswersPolls & Surveys1 decade agoFavorite back-up band?
We all have favorite bands, but if their front person were gone (ie; Huey lewis & the News; Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers; etc.) who would your favorite back-up band be, and why?
14 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoAnswer ONLY if you're old enough . . .?
. . . to personally remember the mid to late Sixties. If The Beatles had released Sgt. Pepper a year or so later, would we now be talking about other albums from that time that would have had more of an impact on the music scene? This thought came to mind as I scanned across "Head" by The Monkees (seriously) this morning in my collection.
10 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoIs technology the culprit?
I read about how rock isn't the same; rock is dead; there are no more epic bands. Think about this: it seems that most opinions of when the "great" bands and rock ended coincide with the advent of the Internet and widespread use of technology. I'm just wondering if the relatively instant nature of our world today takes any of the magic out of rock. In the past, we waited for as long as it took for the new album of whomever to come out; we had only snippets of information from radio and the print media as to when that was going to be. The release of any major group's album was a much anticipated event, and there was NO pre-releases of songs, etc., on the 'Net (heck, there was no Internet!) to tease us. Granted, there don't seem to be the causes around today like we had then. Vietnam alone was cause enough. It seemed to collectively group us and give people a direction. Is that why music today seems narcissistic and angst ridden? Is technology the culprit? Your thoughts, please.
7 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoHEY!! C'mere a minute!?
If we tend to agree that our teachers in school were lame for playing the "guess what's in my head" game during classroom Q&A, why do people still use the same technique here? I mean, I'm all for freedom of expression, but some of the questions are more like inane pop quizzes, revealing information that few, if any, relish other than the Asker. Why can't this be more of an open forum for opinions and real questions? Do we HAVE to play "teacher?"
3 AnswersRock and Pop1 decade agoSpooky Tooth??
I was going through my stuff and came across Spooky Tooth -Spooky Two. Wow! Does anyone remember how awesome "Waiting For The Wind" sounds even now? I'd like to hear your views and/or remembrances.
