It Didn't Make Any Sense!!!!?

Inspired while answering a question by Tesla Girl, I've got this one for you:

What music from any albums in your collection contain a song that you just don't understand why it didn't become a hit? It sticks in your craw; why didn't the Powers That Be decide to exclude this gem from the masses? You can cite one in particular, or let the R&P Universe know of ALL the transgressions. I will apologize in advance for not having at least one of my own here; the question came up too fast for me to check out my collection for guidance. I may be back with an edit.

Update:

To All Answerers: I am sorry, it seems my avatar attracts TD Trolls. Unfortunately, I can only counter each with one thumbs up.

I'd go with most of the stuff that I listen to. As much as I have long since accepted that the stuff I listen to will never be chart contenders part of me still doesn't get it. I just listen to nitch music I suppose. I look at Cut Your Hair by Pavement for instance. A song that actually hit MTV and was incredibly catchy. A really good song, but it never stuck. I guess it's not really a bad thing. I don't have to be a part of the whole "my favorite band sold out" thing that seems to drive so many people nuts. There are tons of songs that would have made great hits though that just never got the attention that they deserved.

  • I've ALWAYS wondered this about Foreigner's album, "Unusual Heat." Yea, I know it's a different singer but seriously... LISTEN TO IT! It is in my opinion, one of the greatest albums ever created and it got no where! I do know that part of the reason why this album didn't earn much success was because it came out right as music was turning to grunge so people just didn't take well to a Foreigner album; especially *new* Foreigner at that. I understand peoples' hang ups with wanting the original singer. I too feel that way about most bands, with the exception of Foreigner. This album is just incredible and I wish more people gave it a shot. I have a good feeling that if no one knew who the band was BEFORE they heard any song off that entire album, they'd like it.

...ok, there's my rant for the day. I'm done lol.

99 by Toto off the Hydra album. It has great piano solos and vocals...maybe it was just too long of a song.

Eyes of the World by Rainbow off the Down to Earth album...just always liked it. But really I think some songs are just better being hidden gems than becoming overplayed and commercialized.

I'm with Prof. Growing up listening to the underground before the underground became popular, there's a whole lot of bands I listen to that don't get the credit they deserve as far as record sales or Billboard chartings go. The most obvious one I can think of is Teenage Riot by Sonic Youth. It has everything it takes to be a bonafied smash hit but never made it as one as all the bands who were influenced by them got the exposure.

You know Buff, I love the band Rainbow

    But the single..

    Can't Happen Here/B-Side: Jealous Lover

Is the perfect example of what You are talking about

Can't Happen Here absolutely blows chunks, the worst Rainbow song I've ever heard.

The B-Side Jealous Lover is one of the best Rainbow songs ever recorded IMO

    What was Richie thinking??

The Prophet's Song by Queen. Its off A Night At The Opera. I think it is an epic song much better than Bohemian Rhapsody. ( Love Bohemian Rhapsody though I am burnt out)

The best song off of J. Geils Band album Freeze Frame was never released as a single and in some ways that sticks in my craw and in others it doesn't because it never became top forty fodder and over played to death. The song - Angel in Blue.

I'm really curious to what a TD troll is?

Um... Anyway to your question - I was surprised that "Let There Be Love" from Oasis last album was not a huge hit. It's a pure classic.
